  • I made sure that there are no existing discussions - open or closed - to which I could contribute my information.
  • I have read the FAQs inside the app (Menu -> About -> FAQs) and my problem isn't listed.
  • I have taken the time to fill in all the required details. I understand that the bug report will be dismissed otherwise.
  • This issue contains only one bug.
  • I have read and understood the contribution guidelines.

Affected app version

1.5.0

Affected Android/Custom ROM version

Android 16 with GrapheneOS & Android 15 on an Emulator (Android Open Source)

Affected device model

Pixel 10 & Emulator Intel x86_64

How did you install the app?

F-Droid / IzzyOnDroid

Steps to reproduce the bug

  1. Before opening the app, rotate the device to landscape.
    • From own experience: for reliable reproduction, make sure the phone sensors have actually registered the rotation change, before advancing to the next step. Else, you will not see the bug
  2. Open the app
  3. Take a picture or capture a video
  4. Open the picture / video

Expected behavior

The picture/video should be taken in the orientation you saw it during preview (landscape)

Actual behavior

The picture/video is taken in portrait rotation.

Screenshots/Screen recordings

This recording is from an Emulator, where it is also reproducible:

Screen_recording_20260501_213242.webm

The issue only happens when rotating before starting the app. All rotations happening while the app is already open are handled correctly. Video of that failed to upload - probably the device rotations during capture confused the Emulator screen recording.

Additional information

Maybe related to #37, but as one user stated there:

Confirmed that turning the option to save metadata on resolves it

this seems to be two different issues. My bug happens with metadata saving on and off.
