Looks generally correct to me. Is there a way to make it update instantly when the ME system connects to it, or is that not provided by the AE2 API?

hmm IGridNode only seems to have a getActive method, but if we want to implement a more responsive texture update we can probably implement some kind of onActiveChange listener in the AE2 API. If that happens we can also change the stocking buses/hatches to be more responsive in the same way
