Welcome to the Bloopair BLE Testing discussion.
This is still very experimental, only proceed if you want to help out. Expect lots of bugs and issues.
Huge thanks to all of my supporters! My controller collection keeps growing...
I thought BLE support wasn't possible?!
I never said it wasn't possible, I only considered it to not be feasible.
The Wii U's Bluetooth module is Bluetooth 4.0 compliant and supports both EDR and Low Energy.
However, the Bluetooth stack on the Wii U is missing a lot of features, such as GATT and SMP, required to communicate and pair with most BLE devices.
Luckily for us, the stack is compiled with general BLE support, allowing me to implement my own custom implementations on top of the existing Bluetooth stack.
This required a lot of patches and code.
There were several bugs in the existing stack, IOS-PAD code, and even the Bluetooth controller, which I had to patch or implement workarounds for.
Additionally the WUD library in IOS-PAD is tightly coupled around the BTA Hid Host API, which needed to be replaced for BLE connections.
Supported Devices
Additionally all devices which were already supported, including official Wii U devices, should be tested, due to the amount of code changes that were done to support BLE devices.
New SD Card Pairing Information
Device pairings are now stored on the SD Card instead of next to the official controller pairings on the Wii U.
The pairings are stored under
wiiu/bloopair/deviceson your SD Card using the device address as the filename. All files start with the following header:
Depending on the device type, BR/EDR and Switch pairings continue with the 16-byte link key.
Switch 2 pairings continue with the 16-byte LTK. All other BLE pairings continue with the following format:
Missing Features
Both regular BLE devices and Switch 2 devices are currently missing battery levels and are always shown as fully charged.
