Thanks for the report and the screenshots. You were using it correctly. This was a bug. Here is how preselection is meant to work. A new window splits the focused window, and preselection lets you choose which side the new window goes on:
The next window uses up the preselection. A split key ( The bug was that tuios always split the last window in the layout, which is the bottom-right one with the default spiral scheme. In a normal daemon session it also dropped the preselection. Both are fixed in #349. The fix also makes the The fix ships in v0.8.5, which is going out shortly. I found the "preselect" feature on this page to be intuitive, specifically when focusing on a window and then splitting it using the preselect direction. However, when I actually use it, regardless of where the focus is, the new window is always created in the lower right corner. I'm unsure if this is a bug or if I'm using the feature incorrectly.
