If you're looking to improve, modify or even just try our web page, you will need to install a few tools on your computer.

Installation files you will need to download

How to install each of the files needed

  • Install Java JDK on your computer. In this example, the installation is done in "C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_07" and Java JRE is located in "C:\Program Files\Java\jre7";

  • Add the following environment variables so that Java works properly (if you don't know how to add environment variables, [click here] (http://www.java.com/en/download/help/path.xml)) :

    JAVA_HOME : C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_07

    JAVA_BIN : C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0_07/bin

    JAVA_JRE : C:\Program Files\Java\jre7

  • Unzip tomcat files in some folder. For this example, let's say we used "C:\tomcat".

  • Add the following environment variable so that Tomcat works properly:

    CATALINA_HOME: C:\tomcat

  • Test your tomcat installation by starting up the server. Execute %CATALINA_HOME%\bin\startup.bat. Once started, open your web browser and enter the following address: http://localhost:8080.

  • Rename the JavaBridgeTemplate621.war package for JavaBridge.war.

  • Copy the JavaBridge.war file and paste it into "%CATALINA_HOME%\webapps".

  • Restart your tomcat server by using the following scripts %CATALINA_HOME%\bin\shutdown.bat and %CATALINA_HOME%\bin\startup.bat

  • After startup, a JavaBridge folder should have been created in **%CATALINA_HOME%\webapps**.

  • Add the following environment variable. If "path" already exists, simply add your repertory at the end of the one that's already set up by separating them with a semi-colon ;.

PATH : C:\php

  • Restart your tomcat server by using the following scripts %CATALINA_HOME%\bin\shutdown.bat and %CATALINA_HOME%\bin\startup.bat. Tomcat should start without any problems.

  • Test your installation by opening your web browser and going to the page: http://localhost:8080/JavaBridge/test.php

  • Install WAMP on your computer. In this example, it is installed in "C:\wamp".

  • Open the php.ini file in C:\wamp\bin\php\php5.4.3\php.ini and edit the following value:

    allow_url_include = On

Note: Your Apache server must use port 80 or any other port that seems logic EXCEPT for port 8080 which is used by Tomcat.

  • To change Apache's server listening port, open the C:\wamp\bin\apache\apache2.2.22\conf\httpd.conf file and edit the following line:

    Listen 80

    ServerName localhost:80

  • Finally, since our code is UN-performant, you will need to extend the timeout setting so you can see the result of your query on our web site before wamp times out. In your Wamp menu, click the PHP sub-menu, and open the php.ini file. Change the max_execution_time value to 30000, or anything over 1800.
