v1.16.12
v1.16.11
Fixed
- Day of the Dead now spans November 1–2 in the built-in calendar, matching the decorative overlay's two-day observance.
- Hanukkah appears across all eight calendar days instead of only the first day.
- Rosh Hashanah appears as a two-day observance.
- Ramadan covers the calculated Islamic month (29 or 30 days) instead of only its first day.
- Multi-day holiday events remain visible when they began before the current calendar window, including date ranges crossing month or year boundaries.
- Holiday date arithmetic uses local civil days to avoid one-day shifts around daylight-saving transitions.
Added and Improved
- Passover can be configured as seven days (Israel) or eight days (Diaspora), with eight days as the default built-in setting.
- Holy Week covers seven days from Palm Sunday through Holy Saturday.
- Sukkot covers seven days.
- Eid al-Adha covers four days.
- Kwanzaa spans December 26 through January 1.
- New Year's Eve has its own December 31 calendar entry to match the existing holiday overlay.
- Existing single-day holidays retain their existing single-day durations.
- Built-in holiday options remain individually controllable, and optional holiday add-ons remain disabled by default.
v1.16.10
Fixed
- Replaced holiday date selection based on the last weather API timestamp with the viewing browser's live local date.
- Fixed holiday decorations persisting beyond the end of the holiday when weather data had not refreshed overnight.
- Made the existing weather-overlay health check detect local calendar-day transitions and rebuild the scene without requiring a page refresh or a new weather download.
- Ensured the midnight refresh bypasses Raspberry Pi animation-repair cooldowns so expired holiday decorations are not held by the health timer.
- Preserved intentionally multi-day holiday dates, including New Year's Eve/New Year's Day and Day of the Dead, instead of dismissing them prematurely.
v1.16.9
Fixed
- Google Photos can display the first available image without waiting for the entire album to finish loading.
- Added automatic retries for transient background loading failures.
- Removed unnecessary first-image prewarming delays on Raspberry Pi displays.
- Prevented large albums with unavailable images from blocking startup through unbounded consecutive attempts.
- Improved recovery when network connectivity returns.
Improved
- Added bounded background retry scheduling that stops once a usable photo is visible.
- Preserved cached backgrounds and offline fallback behavior.
- Improved Backgrounds troubleshooting guidance.
v1.16.8
Added
- Google Photos background-quality settings: Automatic, 1080p, 1440p, 4K (3840×2160), and 8K (7680×4320).
- An 8K resolution request option for stock background photos, subject to source availability.
- A Backgrounds image-quality and screen-fit readout that reports the decoded image dimensions on the viewing browser.
- A Check displayed photo action and a clear warning when the background must be upscaled to fill the display.
- Automatic Google Photos size selection based on browser viewport dimensions and device pixel ratio.
Fixed
- Removed the prior fixed 1920×1080 Google Photos request that could deliver unnecessarily low-resolution images to 4K/8K displays.
- Raised the remote background-image-only proxy response allowance from the ordinary 25 MiB limit to 128 MiB by default, preventing large high-detail photos from being rejected solely due to size.
- Added a separate, bounded background-image proxy limit (
DASHBOARD_MAX_BACKGROUND_IMAGE_BYTES), configurable up to 256 MiB. - Kept large-image proxy cache handling separate from ordinary data feeds and restricted the higher-capacity path to image MIME types.
Docker and TrueNAS SCALE
- Verified that local/NAS media photos are transmitted over LibreDisplay's HTTP media endpoint without resizing, recompression, or byte changes.
- Verified full 3840×2160 and 7680×4320 image delivery, including byte-range responses.
- Documented mounting the NAS photo dataset into the container and selecting the container's
/mediapath, rather than a TrueNAS host/mnt/...path. - Documented the local media per-file allowance (100 MiB by default, configurable using
DASHBOARD_MAX_MEDIA_FILE_BYTES). - Clarified that the browser attached to the actual display must be configured for the intended 4K/8K output; image pixels alone cannot override the display's rendering resolution.
Background Presentation and Compatibility
- Preserved Cover/Contain fit modes, background position, rotation, and blur customization.
- Kept existing saved background settings intact; higher-resolution requests remain selectable rather than forced for everyone.
v1.16.7
Fixed
- Fixed Display Profiles refusing to save a new profile when Settings contained unsaved changes.
- Creating or updating a profile now saves and verifies the current dashboard settings without closing Settings.
- Fixed profile-name and profile-selection controls incorrectly marking the dashboard itself as changed.
- Prevented profile creation from capturing changes when dashboard persistence fails verification.
Improved
- New installations start with the Classic Home layout: a seven-day calendar across the top, current weather and clock at the bottom left, and daily and hourly forecasts across the bottom right.
- The layout is available in the layout preset gallery and remains fully customizable in Arrange.
- Existing saved layouts and configurations remain authoritative during upgrades and are not replaced by the new default.
- Expanded Display Profiles and starter-layout help.
v1.16.6
Fixed
- Fixed the one-line installer incorrectly treating incomplete installations as completed installations.
- Fixed interrupted installations directing users to the updater before initial setup had finished.
- Improved detection of incomplete and previously completed LibreDisplay installations.
- Corrected installation completion tracking.
- Improved installation retry behavior without requiring users to delete application files.
- Updated Raspberry Pi installation instructions and version references.
Improved
- Added safe recovery of recognizable interrupted installations.
- Preserved existing settings, media, and desktop configuration backups during installation recovery.
- Improved protection against overwriting unrelated directories or existing installations.
- Improved first-time installation guidance and troubleshooting instructions.
v1.16.5
Added
- Ready-to-paste TrueNAS SCALE installation configuration.
- Automatic first-time Owner enrollment codes in TrueNAS application logs.
- Guided initial Owner username and password creation.
- Persistent Owner account credentials for subsequent sign-ins.
- Automatic redirection to first-time setup on new TrueNAS installations.
Fixed
- Fixed the first-time TrueNAS experience asking users to sign in before an account existed.
- Removed the need to run container-shell commands during normal first-time Owner setup.
- Improved guidance for expired enrollment codes and existing installations.
Security
- No default username or password is provided.
- Creating the initial Owner account requires a valid, single-use enrollment code.
- Owner passwords require at least 12 characters.
- Passwords are stored using salted PBKDF2-SHA256 hashing.
- Existing installations cannot anonymously recreate initial Owner credentials.
- Raspberry Pi and standard Docker authentication behavior remains unchanged.
v1.16.4
Fixed
- Fixed a Docker first-run issue where users could encounter HTTP 403 errors when accessing LibreDisplay through a network browser.
- Updated the Docker installer to automatically generate a temporary, single-use Owner connection code.
- Added an Owner connection link to the installer output for easier first-time authentication.
- Improved Docker installation error handling and failure reporting.
- Improved compatibility with both prebuilt Docker images and local source builds.
- Corrected Docker installation, update, and recovery path handling.
