Investigate modelling of parallel file systems #28

Description

Typically, parallel file systems, in our contexts mostly Ceph or dCache, involve a high multiplicity of storage nodes combined into pools of a de facto single entity, which serves data via a uniquely represented name space.

For a start, modelling such a system as a single host holding the combined data of all nodes and serving data with an effective read and write bandwidth seems to be a good approximation. However, it would be interesting to study, if such assumptions, indeed are leading to a reasonable representation of such file servers.
