@HMAKT99 HMAKT99 released this 30 Jun 06:02

First public alpha of OpenHearing — open-source hearing assistance for Android.

⚠️ Please read first

  • Not a medical device. OpenHearing is a sound-amplification / hearing-assistance tool, not a certified hearing aid and not a substitute for a professional hearing exam. It does not diagnose or treat anything.
  • Alpha quality — not yet validated on real hardware. The full pipeline is built and unit-tested, but the live audio path has not been verified on physical devices/earbuds yet. Treat this as a tester build. Use a headset, start quiet, keep the volume comfortable, and stop if anything is too loud.
  • This is a signed release build (R8-optimized).

What it does

  • Pure-tone hearing screening → a per-ear audiogram
  • Builds an amplification profile (half-gain rule)
  • Real-time hearing assist: multi-band gain + compression + feedback guard + a hard output limiter
  • Comfort calibration, high-contrast theme, fully on-device (no accounts/ads/analytics/network)

Install

  1. Download OpenHearing-0.1.0-alpha01.apk below.
  2. On your Android phone (8.0+/API 26+), allow installing from your browser/files app.
  3. Open it and install. Grant microphone access when you try Hearing assist.

Known limitations

  • Live audio not yet device-validated (help wanted!).
  • AirPods Pro 2/3 integration is not implemented yet (works with any earbuds).
  • The screening is uncalibrated — results are estimates, not clinical values.

Help / feedback

Tester reports very welcome — especially anything clicky, distorted, or surprisingly loud (please report loudness/safety issues privately per SECURITY.md). See the README and device-testing guide.
