What is the Ground Magnetometer?
The PSWS ground magnetometer is a low-cost, science grade magnetometer with as sensor able to measure magnetic fields with a resolution of ∼3 nT at 1 Hz able to observe both space-borne and ground geomagnetic activity, ranging from solar flares to geomagnetic storms. It consists of low-cost magnetic sensor (a RM3100, manufactured by PNI Corporation), which communicates with a Raspberry Pi-based computer system; the system operational once the necessary software is installed, marking the Ground Magnetometer a very minimal assembly project.
