Webcam & Chat Widgets on Other SItes

Cam & Chat Widget Concepts

The other sites all follow a general trend with the layout of the webcam & chat widgets and vary significantly depending on the type of billing (goal based vs pay per minute). Personally I think goal based shows are the best way to go, with an option to go private. Common elements across the sites are:

• Room topic
• Performer Cam on Left
• Chat widget on Right
• Status line above cam & chat
• Tip goals (e.g. combined tips get a show that everybody can watch)
• 'Go Private'
• Emoticons in Chat
• Tiny avatars for people.

The idea behind the design concepts is to come up with a new chat/webcam combination widget which shows:

• Model Webcam
• Chat Widget
• Topic for chat
• Favourite button
• Model name + small amount of info
• Maybe model avatar (is it unnecessary?)
• Goal progress + targets
• Buttons to go Private
• Buttons to send tips

Decisions

The final design must fulfil the following requirements:

• Chat & Webcam widget must be the same height at all times
• Webcam on Left
• Webcam must have Volume and Fullscreen controls at the bottom left & right
• Webcam must have Site Logo overlay at top left.
• Chat on Right
• Chat will have model messages originating on the left and user messages on the right.
• Chat must show user/model name for each message
• Chat should handle emoticons
• Topic or Subject area for the model to put in any text they want.
• 'Tip Goal' progress bar, configurable by the model (optional)
• 'Go Private' button (optional)

Good Stuff:

• Arbitrary tip amount + the 'send tip' widget
• Nice Goal progress bar + 'Tip Leader
• User avatars + username in chat
• Nice bar with 'Send Gift, Fullscreen, Leaderboard, Enhanced Chat etc.'
• Username + rating + country at top
• Add Favourite + Add Friend button at top

Bad Stuff:

• Volume & Fullscreen bar above chat.. wtf? - positioning looks bad
• CAM4 logo + username's cam above webcam - positioning looks bad
• Duplicate 'Send Tip' buttons with fixed amounts?
• Rounded button with '25 flash!' - wtf is it?

Site2 (unknown)

Good Things:

• Very simple layout
• Chat is very readable

Bad things:

• Too many mystery buttons
• No Tip Goals etc.
• Chat very big
• No profile info

Site3

Good Things:

• Very Simple

Bad Things:

• Small
• Room Title/Topic not customisable
• Text Input on left.. looks better on right under chat
• Config icons on right... should be under video
• Mystery button after '12'.. wtf?
• 'Available Credits' looks shit
• Lines under title looks shit

• 2 big buttons for Go Private and Send Tip

Bad Things:

• Chat widget is way too big.
• Spacing & readability on chat is bad
• Topic on chat is repeated twice
• Social buttons have no shares... as usual

Site5 (live babes? looks generic)

Good Things:

• Nice and Big
• Readable chat styling
• Emoticons in chat & topic
• Volume icon on bottom left of video
• Nice big button below cam to go private
• Small icons on right hand side of chat
• Buttons above text input for font.. smilies, chat

Bad things:

• 75 credits? I am a guest with no credits... what does it mean?
• Lots of grey area above webcam
• 'GO PREMIERE' doesn't look like a button
• No Fullscreen

Bad Things:

• Background colour!!!
• Design looks old and ghetto
• Text input & send button too small

Good Things:

• Video/Chat splitter is resizeable
• Video Profile links below webcam
• Topic above chat
• Emoticons and avatars in chat

Bad things:

• Chat widget starts off too big
• No fullscreen option
• Chat is multicoloured which makes it harder to read
