api.py errors when decoding successful timeseries post return

I'm getting this error when I post a timeseries:
ERROR:root:Error decoding CDA response as JSON: Expecting value: line 1 column 1 (char 0) on line 1 Falling back to text

Maybe related to changes in #177?

cwms-python in PyPi won't give the error, but in current main branch it does.

Clarification, this is not an actual store error, it just throws an error notification when trying to parse the CDA response.
