Infectious Disease Modelling and Analytics for Pandemic Preparedness in Latin America (IDMAPP-LATAM)
We focus on priority epidemic contexts in Latin America, including emerging and re-emerging viruses, zoonotic threats and vector-borne pathogens.
Across these themes, we focus on three main pillars:
- Capacity strengthening in developing, interpreting and operationalising models for regional priority threats.
- Collaborative networking under Southern leadership, linking epidemiologists, modellers and policymakers across countries.
- Technical assistance for real-time analytics and decision modelling during ongoing and emerging health emergencies.
Below are some of the key modelling priorities co-developed by IDMAPP-LATAM members.
IDMAPP-LATAM brings together experts in the public and private sector, including academic institutions, ministries of health, and public health institutes, working across vector-borne diseases, One Health/zoonoses, and respiratory pathogens. The network integrates expertise in pathogen genomic epidemiology, mathematical modelling, One Health, veterinary and clinical sciences, health economics, ethics, artificial intelligence, risk communication, epidemiological intelligence, and public health policy.
IDMAPP-LATAM was born out of an advanced pandemic modelling workshop that brought together 40 experts from 25 public health institutions in 12 Latin American countries. Participants spanned national surveillance programmes, ministries of health, universities and research institutes.
