Say hello — questions, intros, and general discussion

[umermjd11]

Open thread for anything that doesn't need its own issue or PR: introduce yourself, ask a question about a task, the codebase, or the protocol, propose an idea, or just say hello.

This replaces pointing people to a single inbox — putting it here instead means questions and answers stay visible to everyone, not just the two people in an email thread. If you're picking up a starter task, a good first issue, or anything else in CONTRIBUTING.md and get stuck or have a question before opening a PR, ask it here.

No question is too small.
