Hey, Welcome, You took the plunge and decided not to listen to Mr. Grumpy, and you want to use a real, functional tool to organize your work better than some people (I won’t name names). If so, WELCOME 🥳 Obsidian, this wonderful tool that lets you do all sorts of things and organize your work easily and effectively.

This README and this REPO will be updated when I have time to do so yes, yes this stuff has been GPTd, sorry not sorry, i really do not have time now to hand write it

HOW TO :

Just download all the "Setup2share" Folder, dump it in your vault, profit

Intro

So yeah, at first it’s confusing—it’s ugly and empty : ![[Base-Obsidian-fig1.png|562]]

But we’re going to make it all nice, pretty, and practical. This repo is my personal setup; feel free to explore the plugins, the code, and everything that comes with it. The world is open; I’m just living in it.

Notes: ⚠ You can get lost very quickly in the folders, plugins, and files, so it’s a good idea to keep track of things and find a workflow that works for you.

Basic Setup

Settings

Options

General

Account and license info if you're paying; check for updates; if you're lazy and have a brain, enable automatic updates.

Editor

Change this to whatever you like—yes, there are Vim bindings, you nerd, go take a shower 🚿

File and Links

A few small details to change here for the setup later:

  • “Confirm file deletion” Are you sure you want to delete the file?*
  • “Deleted Files” System trash if you're cool with it, Obsidian Trash if you're never sure what you're doing
  • “Automatic update internal links” YES, check this box (it’s actually handy for organizing and maintaining consistency when you start accumulating a lot of notes and folders)
  • “Default location for new notes” Personally, I set it to “same folder as current file”—it’s faster to organize than trying to dig through and find the note you just made to file it
  • “New link format” leave it to the fastest option; we're efficient here
  • “Use Wikilinks” if you want clean, clickable links that are quick to create and will take you wherever your heart desires[[#Files and Links]] [[Obsidian Setup#Files and Links]]
  • “Detect all file extensions” Yes, if you plan to have all sorts of files in your folders (PDF, JPG, EXCEL, etc.), it's actually quite handy
  • “Default location for new attachments” whatever you prefer; personally, I like to have the images related to what I'm working on in the same folder, so I choose “in subfolder under current folder” and specify “📷pictures”

The rest doesn’t matter—it’s just personal customization, so it’s up to you to figure it out over time

Plugins / Modules

We love plugins—they’re fast, convenient, and let you do all sorts of amazing things. Here, we’ll cover [[##Core Plugins]] and [[##Community Plugins]] (the latter may vary depending on their specific use). You should configure each plugin to suit your needs. My personal recommendation is to use the SAME date and time format everywhere—both in the base Obsidian app and in the plugins (yes, I’ve had issues because of this).

Plugins / Modules Communautaires [TO DO]

Calendar have a nice calendar in your notebook so you know whether you're going out and drinking tonight or not
Dataview It isn't used to its full potential, but it allows you to access data on just about everything, whether in the notes or elsewhere, via a JavaScript API
Editing Toolbar if you're not familiar with word processing shortcuts
Emoji Shortcodes because everyone knows how to write :smile 🤓
File Color Those colors are for gay people (well, not just them)
Garble text allows you to take screenshots of your Obsidian while blurring the text
Multi-Column Markdown allows you to sort and organize the topics and paragraphs of a note as needed
Natural Language Dates Use @Today to get today's date as a Wikilink
Omnisearch Big Brother's watchful eye, which knows everything and finds everything in your notes, PDFs, images, etc. (handy)
Sheets Extended makes tables more editable and user-friendly
Tasks because it's handy to have the dates on your to-do lists
Templater DAMN USEFUL, allows you to automate everything, provided you use YAML
Text Extractor lets you extract text from images and PDFs without using AI (because OCR exists, so calm down, GPT)
Widgets allows you to include useful widgets in a note
Image Converter allows you to do basic image editing directly in Obsidian without having to use Paint

Résultat :

Plugins allow you to switch from Virgin Obsidian : ![[../📷 pictures/image-1.png]]

to Chad Setup: (yes, everything is anonymized, duh) ![[../📷 pictures/image-2.png]]

Exemples de notes

Here you'll find some useful note templates for your work (Investigation, Client File, Meetings, etc.) Feel free to customize them however you like, but this provides a consistent framework for everyone

[[Soc Investigation]]
[[Month - Client_name]] (a #template has been created to automate note generation)
[[Daily Task Tracker]] (update with daily tasks whenever possible to keep track)

Notes utiles

Here are some useful notes for your day-to-day work at the SOC

[[SLA Justify 1]] In case of SLA violations (try to avoid them), here are some examples of justifications
[[💀 EOL OS 1]] OS end-of-life dates (update, add, remove—feel free)
[[Spam response 1]] List of pre-written responses for common alerts we receive; search by relevant hashtag
[[Customer Reports 1]] Because someone is going to give you a hard time about this when you submit reports

Automatisation

This is where it gets interesting: if you have the “Templater” plugin, you can automate the creation of notes using a predefined template (there are probably more features, but this is what’s currently available). The automations are written in YAML, so they’re flexible and quick to set up.

The command for creating a new note using Templater : Alt + n

This gives you a list of examples in your [Templates] folder

Here are a few examples of pre-made notes I’ve set up: [[-astreinte]] when you’re on call—this is the equivalent of “soc investigation” but with additional details for the on-call shift, a sorting option (to be modified according to your organization), and the addition of the date and time of the shift [[🛠️ Projects/Obsidian project/Setup/-meeting]] for client meetings (currently a choice between: “monthly, quarterly, and workshop”) with the necessary information (if you're not on the list of analysts, update your code)
