Note
This is about how to edit video and add effects.
Before editing, let's define Resolution, Frames Per Second (FPS), and Color Space!!
For Premiere Pro'Ctrl+N' - 'Sequence Settings' / Setup Required
For CAPCUTCheck 'AI UHD' on the top right or specify during Export / No pre-setup NOT required
Resolution🎬
- ♡
3840x2160 4K UHD♡: High TV-quality resolution. Requires high device specs. 2560x1440 2K QHD: Mainly used for PC Gaming🖥. Rarely used in general videos.1920x1080 FHD: The most common resolution. However, 4K is becoming the trend!
Short-form Resolution📱
- ☆
1080x1920☆: Standard for mobile phones. Mostly used for Shorts/Reels. 2160x3840: Used for high-quality content like 'Fan-cams'.
Frames Per Second (FPS🎞)
24: Movie/Cinematic feel.30: Generally used for most videos.48: Smoother cinematic look.- ♥
60♥: Very smooth. High quality, but results in larger file sizes! 120+: Still early for general use. Best quality, but unsupported on some platforms (YouTube, Instagram, etc.).
Color Space 🖼
Rec. 709 8bit-
♥
Rec. 709 10bit♥ (10bit has a wider color gamut.) HLG (HDR 8bit)- ★
PQ (HDR 10bit)★ -
P3 D65 HLG: Very efficient, but has compatibility issues on many platforms! - (*🎨 8-bit expresses
$256^3$ colors, while 10-bit can express$1024^3$ colors.)
Recommended Settings by Situation
- Daily Vlogs & Documentaries: 4K - 30FPS - Rec. 709 10bit
- Scenery & Cinematic: 4K - 24FPS - PQ (HDR 10bit)
- Short-form (Reels, Shorts, TikTok): 1080x1920 (Vertical) - 30~60FPS - Rec. 709 10bit
This technique involves removing unnecessary parts and naturally transitioning between scenes.
Recommended length for each clip:
Interview: Focus on the core content as much as possible.Non-important clips: Keep under 5 seconds.
Reference Video!
Basic Shortcuts
Q: Ripple Trim Previous Edit to Playhead (Removes the unnecessary front part).W: Ripple Trim Next Edit to Playhead (Removes the unnecessary back part).C(or Ctrl+B): Razor tool / Split clip.
Applying Q, W, C
Standard Cut: The most effective way to deliver a story by cutting out boring parts like silence.Jump Cut: Cutting out the middle of a long clip and joining the remaining parts to create a "jumping" effect.
Warning
From here, we cover more advanced topics. Essential if you want professional results!!
Sound Keyframe Application
J-Cut: The audio of the next clip starts playing before the video transitions. You hear the next scene before you see it. (e.g., Hearing rain before showing a rainy scene.)L-Cut: The opposite of a J-cut; the audio of the previous clip continues playing over the start of the next shot.
Others
Cut on Action: Cutting while the subject is in motion to make the transition feel smoother.Cutaway: Inserting a shot that is indirectly related to the main action. (e.g., Cutting from a football player to the cheering crowd; the crowd shot is the 'Cutaway'!)
Includes main subtitles, main video, and main images. Keep non-essential clips under 5 seconds!
Recommended Subtitle Position - Based on X, Y coordinates
4K: 1920x19441080p: 960x972- *When dividing height into 10 parts, place it in the first section from the bottom.

CapCut
For general text: Click
Style. For captions:Caption Style->Style.
1. Font✍️ Choose a font type (see reference) and adjust the size. Adjust font size according to the mood. (60pt for 1080p, 120pt for 4K). You can use Bold or Italic for emphasis.
2. Color🎨 Change the color of the text itself.
3. Stroke (Border)🖼️ Change the color of the text edges. Adjust the thickness so it doesn't overwhelm the text color!!
4. Background⬜ A box that appears behind the text. Adjust color and transparency based on the situation.
5. Shadow◼️ Creates a 3D effect by adding distance and angle. It can provide shading or make the text "glow" if matched with the stroke color.

Sound/Visual Effects (FX) are crucial not only for fun but also for keeping the audience's attention.
It's essential, but as a beginner, finding resources can be overwhelming🫠.
I am sharing the link to my personal FX drive that I've been collecting since 2019.
How to Apply Effects (Premiere Pro)
Tip
Tip: Please cut out silent or unnecessary parts...
Transitions make the video look smooth and natural. They range from simple blurs and flips to cinematic lens effects. example
Warning
Advanced topic: Keyframes are essential for professional editing!!
Keyframe Examples
3 secs or less
0:00: Opacity 0 / 0:45: Opacity 100 / end-0:15 (e.g., 2:45): Opacity 100 / end (e.g., 3:00): Opacity 0
- Use 'Ease In/Out'. Example: 0:00 Ease Out - 0:45 Ease In. This makes the transparency change look much more natural!
Over 3 secs
0:00: Opacity 0 / 1:00 Opacity 100 / end-0:30 (e.g., 3:30): Opacity 100 / end (e.g., 4:00): Opacity 0
- Use 'Ease In/Out' to change the speed of the effect for a smoother look.
You can add Zoom, Rotation, or Animation while the visibility changes. Template these to speed up your workflow!!🔥🔥🔥 You don't need these effects for short memes like 'Tralalelo tralala🦈'.
Presets
Save your effect (f/x) values. Use them when you want to apply the same effect again.
Nested Sequences or Grouping Used to tie multiple clips together. Great for applying FX or Keyframes to multiple clips at once.
