dongles-v0.1
Designed specifically with the RG35XX 2024 in mind
I gifted an RG35XX 2024 to a friend last year, but a few weeks ago the screen broke (likely due to the classic "cat knocking things over" situation). He asked me if I could make it work with Bluetooth dongles so he could keep using it by connecting it to the TV with wireless controllers... and here we are.
This version was tested using a few generic dongles and a TP-Link Archer Nano TX10UB.
All tested dongles (Bluetooth-only and Wi-Fi+Bluetooth) worked perfectly in my tests. However, this might not be the case for everyone, so I might add a list of fully tested dongles in the future. This is the list of currently tested dongles:
- TP-Link Archer Nano TX10UB
- AC-B600
- Ugreen CM591-90225 (ATS2851)
- Generic bluetooth dongle CSR-V5.0 / USB ID 0a12:0001 (Cambridge Silicon Radio / CSR)
My only experience with this was fixing Wi-Fi on Linux laptops about 20 years ago (since I started using Linux). These patches are based on that knowledge; I basically just enabled a ton of drivers, starting with the ones for my own dongles and then adding more just in case.
How to install
For installations follow the instructions on the official ROCKNIX webpage.
If you bought the console in 2025 or earlier, the correct image is likely the DDR4 one. If you bought it in 2026, you should test both the DDR3 and DDR4 images.
How to use Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
You must plug in the dongle before turning on the console. Hot-swapping (plugging it in while the system is running) does not work the same way it does on a standard PC.
Long-term outlook
This will likely be the first and last release for this fork. I might make another one if I borrow my friend's console again sometime, but if his setup is still working fine, that probably won't happen.
I won't be submitting a PR to ROCKNIX. In my opinion, my way of solving this is a bit messy and probably not suitable for an OS that needs to squeeze out every bit of performance.
