RiftWii 2.7.0 RC9.2
RiftWii 2.7.0 RC9.2: 2.7.0 RC9.1 plus a better fix for PMEX Remix. The test plan lists every step. If you want only tested versions, stay on 2.1.0 (Settings > Updates > Stable) until 2.7.0 is final.
Fixed since RC9.1
- PMEX Remix with Brawl on a USB drive crashed after a black screen. RC9.1 got it past Brawl's warning screen, but its files from the SD card still failed on a real Wii. Tests on a console with switches that turn RiftWii's extras off one by one showed the crash recorder was the cause: code builds like PMEX Remix and Project+ use all of the game's memory and expect Brawl's data at fixed places, and the recorder's reserved memory moved it. Code builds now start without the crash recorder, as under USB Loader GX. With the recorder off, PMEX Remix reached a match on that Wii; the final build is untested on a console.
- Version numbers: every part of a build now carries its own version. Since RC8 some parts still said 2.7.0-rc8, so the updater kept offering an update after it was installed.
Please test
Super Smash Bros. Brawl, as many ways as you can: plain, with PMEX Remix, with Project+; from USB and from the SD card; with different video settings (video mode, width, borders) and online server on and off. With PMEX Remix or Project+, sd:/riftwii/boot.log should say "Game crashes: not recorded: a code build uses all of the game's memory".
Known issues
- In-game screenshots, and the GameCube adapter in games, with a Brawl code build (Project+, PMEX Remix) may fail the same way; keep them off for those.
- A pink bar at the bottom in the Kirby games with video width 720 and borders removed (#13). Keep width on Game and borders on Keep for them.
- On some Wiis RiftWii cannot read the cIOS information it uses for Automatic ("cIOS: d2x in no slot that could be read"); Automatic then tries 249, 250 and 251 as before.
- The GameCube adapter in games on a Wii U is unreliable with On: it can freeze games from the SD card or USB at 97%. Keep it on Automatic.
- CTGP Revolution 1.03 from RiftWii is experimental; starting CTGP from the Homebrew Channel is the way that works.
- Super Mario Galaxy can still go black when it returns to the RiftWii channel.
- In-game screenshots, RVZ images, the virtual SD card and the GameCube adapter in games are still experimental.

RiftWii 2.7.0 RC9.1
RiftWii 2.7.0 RC9.1: 2.7.0 RC9 plus three fixes. It was first published as RC10, but RC9 and older compare "rc10" as text and put it below "rc9", so their updater never offered it and GitHub listed it under RC9. The test plan lists every step. If you want only tested versions, stay on 2.1.0 (Settings > Updates > Stable) until 2.7.0 is final.
Fixed since RC9
- PMEX Remix with Brawl on a USB drive stopped on Brawl's own warning screen instead of its REMIX logo, and froze. Code builds like PMEX Remix and Project+ use all of the Wii's main memory and wrote over the small crash recorder RiftWii places at its top; for games on USB or SD that recorder also answers a disc check, so the game ran the overwritten bytes. With such a build, the recorder now goes to the other memory bank. Reproduced and fixed in Dolphin; untested on a Wii.
- GameCube adapter setting: from Automatic, both arrows went to On, so on a Wii U turning it Off meant accepting the two warnings first. Left now goes to Off.
- Updates: numbers in a release's name now compare as numbers, so a later RC10 is offered after RC9.
Since RC9 (released without an announcement): before starting CTGP Revolution, RiftWii adds disable_ios_exploit = yes to the [exploit] section of sd:/ctgpr/config.ini, so CTGP's own IOS exploit cannot wait forever under a cIOS.

RiftWii 2.7.0 RC9
RiftWii 2.7.0 RC9: 2.7.0 RC8 plus one CTGP change. The test plan lists every step. If you want only tested versions, stay on 2.1.0 (Settings > Updates > Stable) until 2.7.0 is final.
Changed since RC8
- CTGP Revolution 1.03 started from RiftWii: before starting the CTGP channel, RiftWii adds
disable_ios_exploit = yesto the[exploit]section ofsd:/ctgpr/config.ini. Without hardware access, the channel's own IOS exploit can wait forever under a cIOS. A value you set yourself is kept. Online play does not depend on it. Untested on a Wii.
Known issues
- A pink bar at the bottom in the Kirby games with video width 720 and borders removed (#13). Keep width on Game and borders on Keep for them.
- On some Wiis RiftWii cannot read the cIOS information it uses for Automatic ("cIOS: d2x in no slot that could be read"); Automatic then tries 249, 250 and 251 as before.

RiftWii 2.7.0 RC8
RiftWii 2.7.0 RC8: the eighth release candidate for the next stable version, after 2.1.0. It is 2.7.0 RC7 plus the fixes from its test round. The test plan still lists every step, now with the RC8 items. If you want only tested versions, stay on 2.1.0 (Settings > Updates > Stable) until 2.7.0 is final.
Fixed since RC7
- Metroid: Other M Redux stopped on a black screen right after the launch, with the Wii Remote unable to connect. Redux's executable starts with its own small loader, which finds the top of memory through a value the apploader leaves (the BI2 pointer, 0x800000F4). The shutdown RiftWii does just before starting the game cleared it, so Redux jumped to a wrong address. It is kept now. Reproduced in Dolphin; with the fix the whole pack reaches the title screen, the opening movie and the first room. Loaders built the same way may have the same problem.
- HOME > Homebrew Channel went to the Wii Menu when RiftWii was started from its channel on the Wii Menu. It now starts the Homebrew Channel itself.
- USB drives over 1 TB waited 20 seconds before every USB launch ("the USB drive did not start through d2x"), and packs or RVZ games on such a drive could not be read. d2x's sector count was read as a negative number.
- Problem reports that never arrived: some networks cannot reach paste.rs. When it fails, the report now goes to dpaste.com, and the link and QR code show as usual.
- The D-pad and the pointer fought in the menu (a Classic Controller, or a Wii Remote resting in view of the sensor bar). The D-pad now hides the pointer and moves the highlight; push the stick or move the Wii Remote to bring the pointer back.
- GameCube adapter in the menu: the setup request some third-party adapters need was never sent, and boot.log now shows what each port reports.
- GameCube adapter On, on a Wii U: it can freeze a game from the SD card or USB at 97% (the cIOS sometimes never answers RiftWii's request for the adapter). RiftWii now asks twice before turning it On on a Wii U, and the setting says so. Automatic is safe and unchanged.
Please test
- Metroid: Other M Redux, from USB or the SD card.
- HOME > Homebrew Channel after starting RiftWii from its Wii Menu channel.
- A USB drive bigger than 1 TB, and anything else in the test plan you can.
- The GameCube adapter in games on a Wii U is unreliable with On (see above).

RiftWii 2.7.0 RC7
RiftWii 2.7.0 RC7: the seventh release candidate for the next stable version, after 2.1.0. This is the full test round: everything since 2.1.0 is in it, and the test plan lists every step, section by section. If you want only tested versions, stay on 2.1.0 (Settings > Updates > Stable) until 2.7.0 is final.
New since RC6
- Games from USB or the SD card keep their cIOS when they reload IOS. RiftWii now tells d2x to load the same cIOS for any IOS reload the game asks for, as USB Loader GX does by default, so the game image stays in place. boot.log says "d2x keeps IOS... across the program's own IOS reloads". If d2x refuses, the game starts as before.
- Cheats in games that start another executable, such as Metroid Prime Trilogy's three games: the new executable is hooked too, so the cheats keep working after the switch.
- Region video fix, a new switch on each game page (off unless you turn it on): for a US or Japanese game that shows no picture on a console from another region, the game is told the video hardware matches its region.
- CTGP-R 1.03 from USB or the SD card keeps hardware access under the cIOS. CTGP asks for it, and a tester's RC6 report showed it started without it, then a green screen. Still experimental: the Homebrew Channel stays the way to start CTGP.
Thanks to USB Loader GX and WiiPower, whose work these follow; NOTICE.md and Settings > Credits and licence list them.
Please test
Everything you can, using the test plan. Pick the sections that match what you have. The new parts first:
- Any game from USB or the SD card, then leave it to RiftWii or the Wii Menu and start another one. A game that worked on RC6 and does not now is what we most need to hear about.
- Metroid Prime Trilogy with a cheat on, inside one of the three games.
- CTGP-R 1.03 from USB or SD, if you have it: send the report either way.

RiftWii 2.7.0 RC6
RiftWii 2.7.0 RC6: the sixth release candidate for the next stable version, after 2.1.0. It is 2.7.0 RC5 with the fix below. If you want only tested versions, stay on 2.1.0 (Settings > Updates > Stable) until 2.7.0 is final.
Fixed since RC5
- Games from USB or the SD card could hang on some Wiis right after "cIOS: IOS58's NAND permission check opened" in boot.log. RC5's automatic cIOS choice read each cIOS's information from NAND after opening IOS's permission check, and that hung. It now reads it through ES with the cIOS's own ticket, and a cIOS it cannot read is skipped (249, 250 and 251 are still tried). If you set Game cIOS to a slot to get around this on RC5, you can set it back to Automatic.
Everything else is as in RC5: Kirby's Return to Dream Land past the white screen, USB Loader GX's game fixes, and the d2x cIOS that matches the game's IOS on Automatic.
Please test
- Any game from USB or the SD card with Game cIOS on Automatic: it should start, and boot.log should list your d2x slots and their bases ("cIOS:" lines).
- Kirby's Return to Dream Land and Brawl with PMEX Remix or Project+ from USB, as for RC5.
Known issues
- A pink bar at the bottom in the Kirby games with video width 720 and borders removed (#13). Keep width on Game and borders on Keep for them.
- Kirby's Dream Collection is not in USB Loader GX's fixes; whether it needs one is not known yet.
- CTGP Revolution 1.03: experimental from USB/SD, and from a disc it still does not work from RiftWii. Starting CTGP from the Homebrew Channel is the way that works.
- Super Mario Galaxy can still go black when it returns to the RiftWii channel.
- In-game screenshots, the virtual SD card and the GameCube adapter in games are still experimental.

RiftWii 2.7.0 RC5
RiftWii 2.7.0 RC5: the fifth release candidate for the next stable version, after 2.1.0. It is 2.7.0 RC4 plus the fixes below. If you want only tested versions, stay on 2.1.0 (Settings > Updates > Stable) until 2.7.0 is final.
Fixed since RC4
- Kirby's Return to Dream Land stopped on a white screen after the Wii Remote screen, from USB or the SD card always and from a disc with screenshots or packs on. The game checks its own code (MetaFortress) and stalls when anything changed it, and RiftWii's hooks did. Its checks are now patched out, as USB Loader GX does (crediar's patch).
- USB Loader GX's other fixes for particular games, at every launch: New Super Mario Bros. Wii's disc check, Prince of Persia, Resident Evil 4's GameCube controllers, Excite Truck and Kirby from the SD card, the older error #2 check and the wrong 480p setting some games send the video encoder. Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, Driver: San Francisco, The Adventures of Tintin and We Dare also check their own code, so RiftWii adds no screenshots, GameCube adapter or crash recording to them.
- The game cIOS on Automatic now picks the way USB Loader GX does: the d2x cIOS (any slot) whose base is the IOS the game asks for, Super Smash Bros. Brawl base 56 (its mods need it), and base 56 to 60 for a game on the SD card. 249, 250 and 251 are still tried after it.
- A cheat file in usb:/codes blocked Brawl builds such as PMEX Remix ("code builds like Project+ have to be on the SD card"). That folder is USB Loader GX's cheat folder, not a build.
Thanks to USB Loader GX and everyone whose work it carries; NOTICE.md lists them.
Please test
- Kirby's Return to Dream Land, from USB, with screenshots on and off: it should get past the Wii Remote screen and play.
- Super Smash Bros. Brawl with PMEX Remix or Project+ from USB: boot.log now says which cIOS was picked and why ("cIOS:" lines).
- Everything else, as before: your usual games and packs from a disc, the USB drive and the SD card. A game that worked on RC4 and does not now is what we need to hear about.

RiftWii 2.7.0 RC4
RiftWii 2.7.0 RC4: the fourth release candidate for the next stable version, after 2.1.0. It is 2.7.0 RC3 plus the fixes below. If you want only tested versions, stay on 2.1.0 (Settings > Updates > Stable) until 2.7.0 is final.
Fixed since RC3
- Kirby's Return to Dream Land, Kirby's Dream Collection and Rhythm Heaven Fever stayed on a black screen or crashed at start with in-game screenshots on. RiftWii kept a 0.8 MB copy of the picture in memory these games need for themselves. Screenshots are now always written straight from the screen, with no copy.
- "RiftWii's memory was damaged" stopped launches that were fine. After many cover downloads the menu's memory is in many pieces, and RiftWii's own memory check lost track of the ones past the eighth and reported damage. It now follows them all. If the memory really is damaged in the menu, the launch stops at once and the log names the step.
- Big packs (Rii Major) went back to the Homebrew Channel halfway through loading. RiftWii kept extra copies of a pack's 6 MB main.dol and read files from the SD card through a buffer as big as the file. It now needs about 15 MB less to start Rii Major, and when memory does run out it says so instead of quitting.
- The RiftWii channel went black after leaving a game early (HOME > Wii Menu straight after the game loaded, Wii Sports especially). The channel is now version 8: start the channel installer from Settings to update it. (#12)
Thanks to JackW6809 for the channel fix, tested on a Wii.
Please test
- Kirby's Return to Dream Land, Kirby's Dream Collection, Rhythm Heaven Fever, with in-game screenshots on: they should start and play.
- Rii Major and other big packs: they should start; if one does not, the screen should now say why.
- The RiftWii channel: update it to version 8 from Settings, then leave a game through HOME > Wii Menu, early and late.
- Everything else, as before: your usual games and packs from a disc, the USB drive and the SD card.
Known issues
- CTGP Revolution 1.03: experimental from USB/SD, and from a disc it still does not work from RiftWii. Starting CTGP from the Homebrew Channel is the way that works.
- Super Mario Galaxy can still go black when it returns to the RiftWii channel.
- In-game screenshots may shear slightly during fast motion now that they come straight from the screen.
- In-game screenshots, the virtual SD card and the GameCube adapter in games are still experimental.

RiftWii 2.7.0 RC3
RiftWii 2.7.0 RC3: the third release candidate for the next stable version, after 2.1.0. It is 2.7.0 RC2 plus the fixes below. If you want only tested versions, stay on 2.1.0 (Settings > Updates > Stable) until 2.7.0 is final.
Fixed since RC2
- Mario Kart Wii without packs stopped on a green screen (and Wii Sports on a black one while loading). RiftWii put its crash recorder and screenshot code over the end of the game's file table, which some games keep at the very top of memory. They now go below it. (#10)
- Retro Rewind could fail with "allocation failure", and took long to start. Its thousands of new files are now added to the game's file table in one go instead of one at a time (#8), and finding them on the SD card is faster (#9): about 31 s to 17 s from pressing Start to the first frame.
- "Not now" and "Later" did the opposite when picked with the pointer: declining an update installed it anyway. Pointing at a button and pressing A now picks that button. (#6)
- 480p on the AV cable: with the video setting on 480p, a game was sent 480p whatever the cable, a green or scrambled screen on the standard AV cable. Without a component cable it now gets the same mode interlaced.
Thanks to JackW6809 for the first four fixes, each tested on a Wii.
Please test
- Mario Kart Wii with no packs, and any other game that showed a green or black screen on RC2: it should start now.
- Retro Rewind (and other big packs): it should start, and faster.
- Everything else, as with RC1 and RC2: your usual games and packs from a disc, the USB drive and the SD card. Anything that worked before and does not now is what we need to hear about.
Known issues
- CTGP Revolution 1.03: experimental from USB/SD, and from a disc it still does not work from RiftWii. Starting CTGP from the Homebrew Channel is the way that works.
- The memory damage after switching to the cIOS (RC1) is caught, not fixed yet.
- In-game screenshots, the virtual SD card and the GameCube adapter in games are still experimental.

RiftWii 2.7.0 RC2
RiftWii 2.7.0 RC2: the second release candidate for the next stable version, after 2.1.0. It is 2.7.0 RC1 plus the change below. If you want only tested versions, stay on 2.1.0 (Settings > Updates > Stable) until 2.7.0 is final.
New since RC1
- CTGP Revolution 1.03 with Mario Kart Wii on the USB drive or the SD card (experimental): the CTGP-R Channel switches IOS on its own, which used to drop d2x and with it the game RiftWii was serving as the disc. RiftWii now asks d2x to keep its cIOS through those switches. This has not been tried on a console yet, so it may still stop on a black or green screen. RVZ games are refused for this (use an ISO or WBFS).
- The zip's
SOURCE.txtnow names the right tag (RC1's pointed at av2.7.0-betatag that does not exist).
Please test
- CTGP from USB or SD: an unmodified Mario Kart Wii ISO or WBFS, CTGP's pack on (and the usual CTGP files in
apps/ctgprandctgpron the SD card), start it from RiftWii. Does it reach the CTGP channel? An offline race? Do saves stick after a restart? Send a problem report either way. - Everything else, as with RC1: your usual games and packs from a disc, the USB drive and the SD card. Anything that worked in RC1, 2.6.4 or 2.1.0 and does not now is what we need to hear about.
Known issues
- CTGP Revolution 1.03: experimental from USB/SD (above); from a disc it still does not work from RiftWii. Starting CTGP from the Homebrew Channel is the way that works.
- If a CTGP start fails and RiftWii says to restart the console, please do before starting another game.
- The memory damage after switching to the cIOS (RC1) is caught, not fixed yet.
- In-game screenshots, the virtual SD card and the GameCube adapter in games are still experimental.
