Chunksmith

A chunk pre-generator for Minecraft. It walks a shape you choose, generates the chunks inside it ahead of time, and can hand the resulting terrain to a Level-of-Detail renderer so players see a horizon rather than fog.

Chunksmith runs three ways, from one codebase:

What it is Config file
Mod Fabric / NeoForge / Forge, client or server config/chunksmith/config.json
Plugin Paper / Spigot, server only plugins/Chunksmith/config.yml
LOD client the client half, on any loader config/chunksmith-lod.properties

The three are not identical. A handful of settings exist only on the mod, because the thing they control does not exist on a Bukkit server. That is written down in full on Plugin vs mod rather than left for you to discover.

Start here

  • Configuration -- where the files live, how they are read, what happens when you edit one by hand.
  • Server settings -- every key, its default, its range, and what it actually does.
  • Client LOD settings -- the two settings on the player's side.
  • Commands -- /cs and /cslod.
  • How to -- pregenerate an area, trim a world, get LOD working in multiplayer, and what to do when it does not.

Reporting a problem

Issues for all of Kishku7's mods live in one place: github.com/Kishku7/mod_support/issues.

Two things make a report much faster to act on: which of the three above you are running (mod, plugin, or a modded client against a plugin server), and the Chunksmith lines from your server log rather than a description of them.

A note on this wiki

It exists because it was asked for. The plugin's config.yml had shipped for a long time with a header comment pointing at a documentation URL that never existed -- inherited from the Chunky fork this project started as, and never noticed because nobody who wrote the code ever needed to read it. If something here is wrong or missing, that is worth an issue too.
