Halloween: The Game (PC) HDR Analysis

Technical Info:

• Unreal Engine 5.7.4
• HDR available in the windowed mode
• Defaults to the peak brightness provided by EDID/OS calibration, but can be overridden in game
• Possible sRGB/G2.2 EOTF mismatch in HDR

HDR Settings:

HDR Brightness - possibly exposure, values range from 00% to 100%, default is 06%.

Default is close to 400 nits screen brightness. Minimum values seems close to 300 nits, maximum seems close to 2000 nits.

HDR Peak Brightness - peak brightness, values range from 00% to 100%, default value is 00%, which is the system default based on the EDID/OS calibration.

Hard to determine the actuall nits output as the highlights look pretty dim, dimmer than SDR when brightness matched. Maximum values seems to ususally hoover around 1000 nits

HDR UI Brightness - values range from 00% to 100%, default is 45%.

Default is close to 480 nits. Minimum values seems close to 75 nits, maximum seems close to 1000 nits.

Review:

About as stock UE HDR as you can get. The fact that the settings, even the peak brightness, use the percentage values shows that Devs didn't knew what the game was outputing. I guess the best thing I can say about it is that it's usable.
