Vector database location

I am using qwen3-embedding with local Ollama for document parsing and then use those documents to query the information.

Before I was using AnythingLLM, and just now tried Witsy. I have few questions.

1. Which vector database is being used? ChromaDB or something else?
2. Where those vector files are saved? What is the location?
3. Is there any way to change the location of those embeddings? For example to drive D? Because they could be very large and secondly, I prefer to keep them away from the system drive.
4. Is there any way I can move those embeddings to another PC and then reuse them there, so I don't have to regenerate them again?

1. stevenic/vectra, a minimal, local pure NodeJS database that stores everything in a json file. Someday we probably need to do an overhaul and put some really advanced RAG techniques in...
2. The json file is in the Witsy user data. "C:\Users<user>\AppData\Roaming\Witsy\docrepo"
3. Not at present but that would be fairly easy to add if needed. If you want a manual hack, replace the docrepo folder with a symlink/directory junction, ought to work.
4. Sure, but it would be hard to use it without also copying wherever the other info about the knowledge bases are stored. Easiest way is just to copy your entire Witsy data folder over, no worrying about selectively pulling just the KB info.

Thanks for quick reply and help.

1. It would be nice to also have some few straight forward and open source alternatives like Chroma or LanceDB which I assume could run more smoothly over json.
2. Could be a setting in the app, would be very nice.
3. Ok, I guess I can also copy docrepo.json and docrepo only, at least I can try and see if it works. If not I will copy the entire Witsy folder.
