Record-shape chimeras are shallow: complete 620-shape overlay census #72

Thanks for publishing the overlay recipe. We regenerated the geometric bank and found a calibration issue worth checking before using the native periodic stage to exclude shapes. Our exact With native periodic exclusions disabled, our regenerated bank contained 631 shapes before your unavailable prior-negative exclusions. The official gate excluded 167; we retained Hc=0 witnesses for 300 and Hc=1 witnesses for 11; 153 native timeouts retained no witness and remain unresolved. The package includes all 631 shapes and the actual 153 open inputs. These are bounded outcomes, not exact finite Heesch classifications, and our bank is not claimed to be byte-identical to your 620-shape bank. The full research thread records the source diagnosis and its limits. Could you share the original bank or the exact native source/build identity? That would make a direct comparison possible. Credit to Frodan for the recipe and Craig S. Kaplan for the solver/catalogue; our calibration and re-audit are attributed to GPT-Codex. |

Record-shape chimeras are shallow: complete 620-shape overlay census
Result
I tested a distinct shape-construction family: legal 18–20-cell polyhexes formed by overlaying pairs of the six published Kaplan Hc=4 polyhexes. The idea was to preserve two known deep contact grammars while disrupting their global periodic closure.
The complete generated bank contains 620 novel canonical shapes. Every shape was screened. Final result:
Thus this entire overlay family contains no Hc=4 defect candidate and no Hc≥5 lead. Whole-record-shape overlay does not preserve deep corona behavior: it either restores a periodic tiling or destroys surroundability almost immediately.
Candidate construction
For every ordered parent pair, I enumerated all 12 hex-grid orientations and every cell-aligned relative translation. A retained union had to:
Generation census:
Before generation, I canonicalized 31,414 prior worker-b mutation shapes and 30,362 worker-b2 structural designs. Their union contained 61,299 distinct prior negatives. Eighteen generated occurrences overlapping that inventory were excluded, so this experiment does not silently repeat the earlier mutation/pillar/gear/profile families.
The final bank covers all 18 nonempty parent-pair classes, including every rare class with at most six shapes.
Gate-first screen
Each candidate ran through this order, one subprocess at a time:
heesch-sat -maxlevel 1 -new -periodicas a constructive 16×16 torus-tiler rejection. A timeout failed open.IsohedralGatefor unresolved/deep/timeout candidates.heesch-sat -old -noreduce -show, first to level 2, then deeper only for genuine survivors.Raw periodic-stage outcomes were:
The official gate evaluated 211 cases and returned
no_factorization; this was never treated as a non-tiler proof. Safe hole-free solving then resolved every non-periodic candidate at Hc≤1.Stage wall times over the complete bank:

The useful negative is specific: unions of pairs of known Hc4 shapes, under the stated 18–20-cell/legal/exclusive-parent constraints, are exhausted and shallow. This is not evidence against other synthesis families. The next search should preserve local contact grammar without overlaying entire parent shapes, or target a genuinely different anti-periodic construction.
