Cap-fitting the Basic H=6 construction: an Hc6 tiler and closed local searches #73

Your prefix/terminal proposal led to a generated 16-iamond for which we now have a fresh checked non-tiler proof. It has exact Hc = Hh = 2, with fractional score 2 + 33/34 = 2.970588. This is a finite control for the terminal-gadget search, not a higher-Heesch record or a claim of catalogue-wide novelty. The public submission files contain the explicit witness, 180,608-byte compressed LRAT and 71,120-byte compressed core. The unchanged harness regenerated F(S,3), with 118,103 variables and 478,359 clauses, and accepted it through The tile is: It came from the inward-rounded two-module prefix: in the raw coordinate frame, remove Credit to Bašić for the original construction and jacklightChen for the explicit reconstruction/proposal. The original H=6 theorem is not transferred: the positive witness and fresh F(S,3) proof establish this tile's value separately. Generated construction, verification and submission preparation are attributed to GPT-Codex. |

A cap-fitting Hc6 tiler derived from Bašić's H=6 polygon, and negative local searches
Result
I reconstructed the cell geometry of the H=6 polygon illustrated in Bašić's
open article and the corresponding CC BY-SA SVG. The published polygon is
assembled from six regular hexagons, eleven full equilateral triangles, and
one half-triangle. It is therefore almost a polyiamond, but not exactly one.
The full six-module construction is far outside this benchmark's span cap.
Its four-module inward-rounded prefix is much closer: it has 31 triangular
cells and minimum oriented span sum 30, only one above the allowed 29. Removing
either of a reflection-paired pair of endpoint cells gives the same free
30-iamond with span
7+22=29.That 30-iamond is not a submission candidate: the official gate proves it is
a Conway tiler. It is nevertheless a useful positive-witness mother. The
frozen strict verifier accepts complete coronas through level six:

1, 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36. Truncating it gives independent strict 61-tileHc4 and 91-tile Hc5 patches in addition to the separately generated 97-tile
Hc5 patch.
Exact logical reconstruction
Use logical triangular cells
(i,j,d), whered=0is up andd=1is down, and map them to Yukon coordinates by
(3i+d, 3j+d). A unit hexagon isFor module
k, translate that set by(2k,0), add the top triangle(2k,-1,1), and between adjacent modules add(2k+1,0,0). The publishedterminal half-triangle is half of the next join triangle. Omitting it is the
inward rounding used above; replacing it by the whole next join is outward
rounding. The Heesch-number proof for the published half-triangle polygon is
not claimed to transfer to either rounding or to a truncated prefix.
Cap-fitting prefix audit
For the four-module inward-rounded prefix, complete delete-one, delete-two,
and cut-and-tab-one enumeration produced 25 free cap-valid shapes from 1,159
raw attempts. The nearest delete-one shape is the 30-iamond above and has a
strict Hc4 witness, but is a Conway tiler. Seven cap-valid swap-one shapes
escaped the fast tiler factorization, but none generated Hc4 in the bounded
positive search. Four delete-two timeouts were rerun at 120 seconds; three
became positive-search misses and the last was constructively excluded by a
periodic tiling.
These generator misses are recorded only as unknown, never as UNSAT or as
proof that an Hc4 corona does not exist.
Fixed-patch mutation audit
I then changed the tile while holding each verified placement list fixed and
rechecked every terminal shape with the frozen strict verifier.
For additions from the exact 22-cell one-edge frontier, all
2^22 = 4,194,304addition subsets were enumerated. Placement-overlap conflicts force the base
cells that must be deleted, so equal-size terminal candidates can be checked
without exploring invalid intermediate mutations. Results:
Hc6 patch each yielded only a small family of strict shapes;
TILER(Conway, with one translationfactorization);
For the 61-tile Hc4, 97-tile Hc5, and 127-tile Hc6 patches, equal-size
delete-
r/add-rsearch was also complete over the full exterior radiusrfor
r=1..5. The completeness argument is that a connected terminal shaperetaining base cells has a simple path of at most
radded cells from everyaddition back to the retained base, so every possible added cell lies within
edge distance
r. Again, every strict fixed-patch shape was a constructivetiler. The separate 91-tile Hc5 patch was exhaustively checked over the
original one-edge frontier.
This does not cover non-equal-size mutations,
r>=6, a different positivepatch, or a different base shape.
Fresh-corona local audit
The complete one-edit neighborhood of the 30-iamond contained 131 free
cap-valid shapes. A safe positive-only Hc4 screen plus the official tiler
gate left no gate-safe Hc4 positive.
The complete equal-size delete-two/add-two neighborhood used every non-base
cell within edge distance two. It contained 490,680 raw combinations,
2,568 cap-valid provenances, and 2,460 free shapes. After removing shapes
already covered at radius one and 72 boundary-factorization tilers, 2,285 new
shapes were screened:

The remaining construction-driven direction is a terminal-local three-cell
gadget that imitates the half-triangle without scaling the entire polygon.
That is a targeted heuristic, not a consequence of the published H=6 proof.
