Description
I would like to request support for handwriting input in LeanType.
Handwriting input allows users to write characters or words directly on the screen using a finger or stylus, with the keyboard converting the handwriting into typed text.
Motivation
While swipe typing and traditional tap typing cover most use cases, handwriting input can be particularly useful in the following situations:
- Devices that support stylus input.
- Users who find handwriting more natural than on-screen typing.
- Writing in languages and scripts where drawing characters may be faster than locating keys.
- Accessibility and alternative input preferences.
Proposed Behavior
- An optional handwriting mode accessible from the keyboard toolbar or settings.
- A dedicated writing area where users can write words or characters.
- Real-time recognition and conversion into text.
- Support for both finger and stylus input.
Benefits
Adding handwriting input would provide LeanType users with an additional input method while maintaining the keyboard's flexibility and feature completeness.
Additional Notes
This feature is available in several mainstream keyboard applications (Gboard) and has proven useful for many users. It could be implemented as an optional feature so that users who do not need it are not affected.
I understand that this is a complex feature and may not be feasible at this time, and I completely respect that. However, LeanType has already achieved a level of functionality and refinement that rivals many mainstream keyboards, which gives me hope that handwriting input might become possible in the future.
