We know that API LLM offerings are always a little bit behind as the model cannot be retrained every week but I would have assumed that when a new LLM is released such as Gemini 3.5 Flash today, the API would be roughly on par with the web version, but that doe not seem to be the case ..... see below .... I know that I can create a librechat agent that includes web search ... but the web search that obviously must happen at gemini.google.com is super fast while the one that Librechat is not ...... also it feels a bit bolted on in Librechat and I wonder what others think (BTW: chatgpt.com and grok.com also knew the correct answer and claude.ai did not )
Question gemini-3.5-flash
Is there a single api key environment variable for AWS Bedrock that can replace the access key / secret key combination ?
Answer
No, there is no single "Bedrock API key" environment variable (like
OPENAI_API_KEYorANTHROPIC_API_KEY).Because Bedrock is an AWS service, it uses AWS IAM (Identity and Access Management) for authentication. By default, AWS requires a combination of at least two environment variables (or three if using temporary credentials):
AWS_ACCESS_KEY_IDAWS_SECRET_ACCESS_KEYAWS_SESSION_TOKEN(optional, for temporary sessions)AWS_REGION(required to specify where Bedrock is running)However, if you want to avoid managing these key combinations in your code or environment variables, here are the best alternatives to simulate a "single key" or "zero key" setup:
Question gemini.google.com
Is there a single api key environment variable for AWS Bedrock that can replace the access key / secret key combination ?
Answer
Historically, AWS has strictly required standard SigV4 credentials (
AWS_ACCESS_KEY_IDandAWS_SECRET_ACCESS_KEY). However, AWS introduced Amazon Bedrock API keys, which function exactly like a single OpenAI-style token or bearer token. You can use the single environment variable
AWS_BEARER_TOKEN_BEDROCKto authenticate directly against Bedrock without setting traditional AWS access keys or managing separate IAM user infrastructure..
