Provides full Text-To-Speech accessibility for The Drifter (Powerhoof), a point-and-click adventure game, so it can be played by blind and visually impaired players.
Announced via NVDA:
- All menus (main menu, pause, options, save/load)
- Character dialogue and narration (with speaker name)
- Hotspots, props and characters on controller hover
- Inventory items when cycling with bumpers or the inventory wheel
- Item-combining wheel (right stick cycling without queueing)
- Chapter title cards ("Chapter 1: Welcoming Party", etc.)
- Travel map locations
- Dialog / topic choices
- The Drifter (Steam) – tested on the current Steam release
- NVDA screen reader running before you start the game (download)
- Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit)
Everything MelonLoader needs is already included in this package.
You do not need to install MelonLoader separately.

Locate your game folder.
Default Steam path:C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Drifter\ -
Extract the contents of this ZIP directly into the game folder.
All files and folders in the ZIP map to the game root — just drag them in and confirm any merge prompts. -
Start NVDA (if not already running).

Launch The Drifter normally (Steam or the
.exedirectly). -
You will hear: "The Drifter Accessibility Mod Loaded." — the mod is active.
That's it.
| Symptom | Fix |
|---|---|
| No speech at all | Make sure NVDA is running before starting the game |
| Game crashes on startup | Check that version.dll (MelonLoader) is in the game root, not the Mods folder |
| Speech queues instead of interrupting | Ensure you are using this full package — older DLL builds had this issue |
| "Mod not loaded" in MelonLoader log | Confirm TheDrifterAccessibility.dll is inside the Mods\ folder |
MelonLoader logs are written to MelonLoader\Latest.log in the game folder — check there if anything goes wrong.
