Developed by academics at the National University of Defense Technology since 2001. The first versions were based on FreeBSD and with version 3.0 became Linux-based. Nova is a user-friendly, desktop-oriented Linux distribution developed by the University of Computer Sciences in Havana, Cuba. In the product's early days the operating system was based on Gentoo Linux and Sabayon Linux, but starting from version 2.1 the developers have chosen Ubuntu as the base system.
