Developed by academics at the National University of Defense Technology since 2001. The first versions were based on FreeBSD and with version 3.0 became Linux-based. It is more suitable for Chinese users using the Simplified Chinese writing system. Popularity: 48 (247 hits per day) in DistroWatch.
A separate project using Ubuntu as the Linux operating system was announced in 2013. The first version of Ubuntu Kylin was released in April 2013.
