How we coordinate work on ProxMenux

ProxMenux is a collaborative project. This category and the roadmap board exist to make contributing easier and more visible, not to add process on top. Anyone who wants to help — even a single line — should be able to find a way in without stepping on someone else's work.

Where to look

• ProxMenux Roadmap — single view of what's planned, available, in progress and done, grouped by status and area. Anyone can browse it without an account.
• This category — for questions like "can I take this?", brief progress updates, or checking whether an area is in flight before diving in.

Roadmap columns at a glance

• Ideas — raw ideas, not yet triaged.
• Planned — on the roadmap but not yet actionable.
• Ready to pick — actionable, help welcome.
• In progress — being worked on right now.
• Review — PR open, waiting for review or CI.
• Done — completed.

Items also carry Area (Monitor / Scripts / Backup / Notifications / i18n / Security / Docs / Infra/CI), Priority, Size and Target version so you can filter by what fits your time and interest.

How to pick up work

1. Browse the Project board and look at items in Ready to pick.
2. Drop a comment on the issue (or open a thread here) saying you'd like to take it.
3. The maintainer will review it and move the item to In progress as soon as possible.
4. Open a draft PR or share early notes when you have something visible — that's what tells the rest of us the item is actively being worked.

For small stuff — typos, translation improvements, doc fixes, single-line bugfixes with clear tests — just open a PR, no need to coordinate first.

For architecture-level questions or feature proposals, the 💡 Ideas category is a better fit than this one.

If life gets in the way

Contributions are never an obligation or a burden. ProxMenux is here to be built collaboratively — contribute what you can, however small, and enjoy the process. If you can't finish a task you took, no problem at all. Just leave a short note on the issue explaining where you got to, as clearly as you can, so another contributor can pick up where you left off.
