CN M420 #2530 Michael McIlwaine photo (from www.cnrphotos.com)

Introduced in 1973, the M420 was MLW's first "square-body" road locomotive offering. Notably, the M420 was the first locomotive designed with a wide nose specifically-designed for enhanced crash safety: the "Canadian Comfort Cab." Other improvements included the first zero-weight transfer trucks and MLW's first usage of AAR control stands.
