RS 10
Image Copyright Chuck Schwesinger
Introduced in late 1954, the RS-10 was a more versatile replacement for the RS-3, being the second locomotive to use the full height hood style which the RSD-7 had pioneered, with a few signature modifications to meet Canadian crash standards. The full height carbody allowed the provision of a steam generator and dynamic brakes without sacrificing capacity on either. Strangely, RS-10 production continued a few months after the RS-11 and RS-18 had been introduced and production began, making the RS-10 the last production locomotive built with a 244 engine. Despite their significance and versatility, only two examples remain today, on display in museums.
