Adding Songs

Maxime66410 edited this page Oct 27, 2026 · 2 revisions

Songs are loaded from datapacks, like recipes or loot tables. You can add songs to a world without restarting the game.

Datapack structure

my_songs/
  pack.mcmeta
  data/
    mysongs/
      noteworthy/
        songs/
          my_song.json
          classical/
            another_song.json
  • my_songs is your datapack. It can be a folder or a .zip file.
  • mysongs is your namespace. Use lowercase letters, numbers, _, - and . only. Pick something unique, like your name or your pack's name.
  • Every .json file in noteworthy/songs/ is a song, including the ones in sub folders.

pack.mcmeta

For Minecraft 26.3:

{
  "pack": {
    "description": "My songs for Noteworthy",
    "min_format": 121,
    "max_format": 121
  }
}

Song ID

Each song gets an ID made from the namespace and its path inside noteworthy/songs/, without .json:

File Song ID
data/mysongs/noteworthy/songs/my_song.json mysongs:my_song
data/mysongs/noteworthy/songs/classical/another_song.json mysongs:classical/another_song

The ID is what you use in commands, like /noteworthy play mysongs:my_song. File and folder names must be lowercase, like everything else in a datapack.

Installing the datapack

  1. Open your world folder: in the world list, select your world, click Edit then Open World Folder. You can also go to .minecraft/saves/<your world>/.
  2. Put your datapack in the datapacks folder.
  3. In game, run /noteworthy reload.

On a server, put it in world/datapacks/ and run /noteworthy reload from the console or as an OP.

Checking your songs

  • /noteworthy list shows every loaded song with its ID, title and length.
  • Every time songs are loaded, the log shows [Noteworthy] Loaded <count> songs.
  • If a file has a mistake, the song is skipped and the log shows [Noteworthy] Couldn't read song <file> with the reason, for example:
    • Unknown note H4
    • Note C6 is outside F#3 to F#5
    • Unknown instrument piano
    • Tempo must be at least 1
    • Song has no parts

The other songs still load normally. Fix the file and run /noteworthy reload again.

Your log is in .minecraft/logs/latest.log (or logs/latest.log on a server).

Editing and removing songs

  • Edit a file and run /noteworthy reload: a jukebox playing that song switches to the new version right away, at the same time position.
  • If you remove a song while a jukebox is playing it, that jukebox stops after /noteworthy reload.

Replacing a built-in song

The songs that come with the mod use the noteworthy namespace. A datapack with a file at the same path, for example data/noteworthy/noteworthy/songs/ode_to_joy.json, replaces it.
