I had this behaviour already sometimes and do not know why it happens. Image looks correct in full size but thumbnail looks corrupt. Is this shown correctly?

The original images only look okay in the Windows Photo Viewer. In Paint, a browser, and in Fork (diff), they look distorted. The replacement images look okay everywhere.
I tried to salvage the original images with ImageMagick to no avail. I also had a look at the images' metadata, but could not figure out what is wrong with them. So I decided to just replace them.

Ah, this is the PR for the updated tool check. As I wrote in the general remarks, I accidentally checked the replacement for the distorted images into this branch, but I reverted the check-in.
