Advice: Running a global model for the first time

Morning - I have been learning how to set UM workflows running with rose and cylc the past few months following the UM documentation papers, and would now like to move on to run a global model. It need not be high resolution, I just want to have a model that successfully runs that I can unpack and understand.

I am not sure if this is the place to ask for suggestions, but if anyone knows of a particular configuration that is suitable to get started with then please let me know!

Hi Ryan,

A reasonable place to start might be the UM standard suites that we maintain and update to each new version. The global version for running on the EX's is available at http://code.metoffice.gov.uk/trac/roses-u/browser/c/i/7/5/2/trunk
It runs a low resolution global model (I think it's N48 in the GA6 configuration). At the moment it runs UM vn13.9 using fcm sources - I'll be updating it for vn14.0 from github shortly.

Will the documentation papers be updated accordingly? When I was looking through X00, there was no mention of u-ci752.

Are there any standard suites that include some level of forecasting? The u-ci752 configuration builds successfully, but it would be useful to have a working example that carries out a forecast.
