Get-VmsDevice returns an error

Hi @Bajjia,

What's happening here is that Get-VmsDevice is a sort of generic way to find a device object of any type, and it's used as a base class for the more specific Get-VmsCamera, Get-VmsMicrophone, Get-VmsMetadata and similar commands.

It looks like when you provide an ID, it will try to create a Camera device instance with that ID, and then a Microphone, and then a Speaker, and so on. But it will throw an exception when it tries to create an instance of a "Microphone" with that ID if the ID is not that of a microphone device.

Can you use Get-VmsCamera instead in this case? I can easily reproduce the issue using Get-VmsDevice but if I know the ID of the thing I'm looking up is for a camera, I can use...

The Get-VmsDevice command tends to work better for external use if you don't provide any arguments, or you use other parameters like Name. For example, here's what it looks like to find all devices of all types with the word "doorbell" in the name:

If you have an ID but don't know what kind of device it's for, you could work around this issue like this, though it may be a tad slow on a large system:

Get-VmsDevice | Where-Object Id -eq 'EBC44715-5830-432E-B0C3-84E44F15C735'

We can take a look at the Get-VmsDevice command and see about changing the behavior. Maybe we could suppress the exceptions, or at least make them non-terminating exceptions so that you could suppress them yourself using -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue in the future.
