Gameplay and Automation
Tree felling is automatic in Survival mode. Break the bottom log of a recognised tree with any material of axe.
Rivet checks the structure before doing anything. A valid tree needs:
- at least 4 connected logs of the same type;
- at least 10 natural, non-persistent leaves;
- no horizontal log run longer than 6 blocks;
- enough vertical logs to reject most wooden builds;
- no more than 96 logs and 512 leaves.
Connected blocks are checked against other protection plugins before the event is accepted. If any extra block is protected, Rivet leaves the whole structure alone.
When accepted, Rivet:
- cancels the original break;
- damages the axe for the number of logs;
- breaks the tree from the top down in short layers;
- gives drops directly to the player;
- drops only inventory overflow at the tree;
- shows an action-bar summary.
The visual sounds and particles follow the global effects switches in config.yml.
Vein mining is also automatic in Survival. Break an ore with a pickaxe that can actually produce drops from that ore.
- Blocks connect through faces, edges and corners.
- Deepslate and regular versions count as the same ore.
- Ancient debris is supported.
- A vein is capped at 64 blocks.
- The pickaxe takes damage for every mined block.
- Normal drops and enchantment behaviour come from Paper's block-breaking rules.
- Protection plugins receive a break check for every connected ore before the vein is touched.
When a player dies without keepInventory, Rivet moves the death drops into a persistent grave.
Each grave contains:
- the original item stacks;
- the owner's UUID and name;
- exact coordinates and world;
- the plain death cause;
- its creation time;
- a floating player head, text display and right-click interaction area.
Rivet finds a safe visible position near the death point, moving upward through liquids or solid blocks when needed. Grave records are saved before the normal death drops are cleared. If saving fails, the items drop normally instead.
Right-click the grave. Items are added to the claimant's inventory and overflow drops at the grave.
Ownership is configurable:
-
owner-only: trueinitially restricts a grave to its owner. -
allow-others-after-seconds: 0means nobody else ever gains access. - A positive delay opens the grave to others after that many seconds.
The claim is saved before items are handed out. If the data file cannot be saved, the grave stays intact.
expiry.seconds: 0 keeps graves forever. With a positive lifetime, expired graves are removed when their world is available. expiry.drop-items decides whether their contents drop into the world.
After respawning, the player can receive a lodestone compass pointing at their newest active grave. It uses the grave's exact world and position and does not need a physical lodestone.
/back is separate from the grave itself. It returns to the latest saved death location even if the grave has already been claimed. The teleport supports a delay, movement cancellation and a persistent per-player cooldown.
Throw a normal egg at a mob while holding rivet.eggcapture.
If Paper can create both a snapshot and a spawn egg for that entity type, Rivet freezes the mob and plays a 28-tick capture animation. The resulting spawn egg stores the original entity snapshot, including the creature's state, and is named Captured <mob>.
If the player's inventory is full, the captured egg drops at their location. Unsupported creatures are left alone. If Rivet shuts down during the animation, it restores the mob's scale, AI, gravity, invulnerability and glow state, then returns the thrown egg.
Auto breeders are persistent End Rod machines. Each species has its own crafting recipe and accepts only that species' breeding food.

- Place the Auto Breeder.
- Right-click it to open its 9-slot food inventory.
- Add only the food shown on its hologram.
- Keep two ready adult animals of the correct species within 8 blocks of the machine and within 8 blocks of each other.
- Rivet checks breeders every 5 seconds.
- A successful cycle consumes two food items and puts both animals into love mode.
The hologram shows the species, stored food and total animals activated for breeding. An Axolotl breeder returns two Water Buckets after consuming two Tropical Fish Buckets.
Breeders cannot be moved by pistons. Explosions remove them cleanly and return the machine plus stored food. Breaking one in Survival also returns the machine and food; Creative mode returns the food but not an extra machine item.
A supported mob killed by a player has a configurable chance to drop its head. The default is 0.03, or 3%.
Vanilla head items are used for Creepers, Zombies and Giants, Skeletons, Wither Skeletons, Piglins and the Ender Dragon. Custom player-head textures cover:
Allay, Armadillo, Axolotl, Bat, Bee, Blaze, Bogged, Breeze, Camel, Camel Husk, Cat, Cave Spider, Chicken, Cod, Copper Golem, Cow, Creaking, Dolphin, Donkey, Drowned, Elder Guardian, Enderman, Endermite, Evoker, Fox, Frog, Ghast, Glow Squid, Goat, Guardian, Happy Ghast, Hoglin, Horse, Husk, Illusioner, Iron Golem, Llama, Magma Cube, Mooshroom, Mule, Nautilus, Ocelot, Panda, Parched, Parrot, Phantom, Pig, Piglin Brute, Pillager, Polar Bear, Pufferfish, Rabbit, Ravager, Salmon, Sheep, Shulker, Silverfish, Skeleton Horse, Slime, Sniffer, Snow Golem, Spider, Squid, Stray, Strider, Tadpole, Trader Llama, Tropical Fish, Turtle, Vex, Villager, Vindicator, Wandering Trader, Warden, Witch, Wither, Wolf, Zoglin, Zombie Horse, Zombie Nautilus, Zombie Villager and Zombified Piglin.
/head <player> uses an online or server-cached profile. It does not make a blocking network lookup for a completely unknown name.
While the worlds module is enabled, physical interaction with farmland is cancelled. Players cannot trample crops by jumping on them.
Tracked and ordinary flat worlds can block natural creature spawning through settings/worlds.yml.
Only Paper's NATURAL spawn reason is blocked. Spawners, commands, structures and other explicit spawn causes continue to work.
