After I forgot to apply the fixes that are needed for Forge 1.17 after updating, spent half an hour scratching my head why my console.out only said "couldn't find `user_jvm_args.txt'" and found the appropriate part of the docs, I wondered if there was a way to automatically make these fixes. So, I put the edits into three
sedcommands. I also added a collapsed explanation of the commands, since they do look a bit intimidating on first sight, if you're not familiar withsed.
