Suggestion: TV-Optimized Scaling for Home Page UI

I checked out the Android TV client (v1.9.0) today. Setting aside the bugs, which I’m sure will be addressed before v2.0, I wanted to share some feedback on the UI.

Overall, the media bar, settings, and details pages look pretty solid and similar to v1.8.1. My main concern is with the home page. I think it could benefit from different scaling to better suit a TV environment.

One of my initial concerns with the new implementation was that it might start to feel more like a mobile or desktop app rather than a TV-first experience. I feel that the current home page leans in that direction. Compared to v1.8.1 and earlier, elements like posters, thumbnails, and text feel noticeably smaller, even on my 75" TV.

I completely understand that part of the repo merge effort is to streamline development across platforms. However, the current scaling on the home page does not feel well suited for TV use. From a usability standpoint, larger elements improve readability and accessibility, especially for users with visual impairments or older viewers. This is fairly common since many self-hosters share Jellyfin with family members.

TL;DR: I think the Android TV client would benefit from TV-specific scaling on the home page to better match typical viewing distances and accessibility needs.

Hi Obvi! The poster sizes can be increased from settings just like it can be in 1.8.1 and for the next update I'm working on a setting to increase font size. Feel free to join the discussion around it on discord or submit a feature request. There's already a similar one for desktop UI and I can increase both desktop and TV UI at once much easier now.

Thanks, I'll check it out. Can it adjust the library covers and thumbnail sizes (continue watching, next up, on now) too? Just to clarify I'm only talking about the Home Screen. The details pages seem fine to me.

Yeah, the settings I talked about are specifically about the home rows posters. Check it out. Settings > Personalization >Home Page > Image Size. Let me know if that solved your issue. There's also an update going out today (it'd been with Google waiting for approval for 14 hours almost) that solved playback and performance too.

See? I try to think of all issues and everyone ahead of time, especially dealing with accessibility. Also there wont be a v2.0. v1.9 IS 2.0 but its staying at 1.9, just incrementing the last number until the rest of the repo catches up to 1.9 otherwise release numberings will be odd. in-app and in play store it will reflect that.
