Seeing as it's impossible to convert an MIB1 high unit to ROW firmware, I'm looking to 'trick' my 2015 A3 into installing a modified EU map update with a ROW map inside of it. I'm wondering if this is crazy enough to work, or whether I'm buying myself a one-way ticket to brick town...
The idea is replacing the files for Albania's maps with NZ's maps. For example, in folder Mib1/SpeechResVDE/EU_Austria/0/default/ I'd replace all of those files with the NZ equivalent, rename NewZealand.iso to Austria.iso, and edit the FileName entry in hashes.txt file from NewZealand.iso to Austria.iso as well.
If I do that for every folder, every file and every hash file. In theory, couldn't this trick the MMI into installing of an NZ map by making it think it's a map of Albania and therefore not triggering the region locks?
Installing an ROW map on my EU firmware gives me a "the navigation data is invalid" message, despite having the correct FECs showing as legal, and completing a successful install process through the REM. However, installing EU maps in the exact same way triggers no errors.
So is this a way to make maps work for me, seeing as MIB1 high devices can't run ROW firmware?
