Release list
Lumen v27.2.0
Lumen v27.2.0 adds measured sparse-disk reclamation and clearer storage accounting for Apple Silicon virtual machines.
Highlights
- Show allocated disk-image blocks on the Mac separately from maximum guest capacity; refresh active VMs every eight seconds.
- Reclaim verified zero blocks in a stopped VM disk with progress and cancellation. Results show actual allocation before and after while preserving disk contents and capacity.
- Extend runtime disk locking to QEMU guests and report unavailable disk usage honestly.
- Add repeatable disposable Linux/ext4 TRIM validation for QEMU/NVMe and Apple Virtualization/Virtio.
Validation
48 core tests, the display-redraw regression, release compilation and deep/strict app signature verification passed. Disposable Linux/ext4 tests recovered about 128 MiB after fstrim on both tested backends. Live UI checks verified measured reclamation and no-op results. Windows/NTFS reclamation and general host/filesystem coverage remain unverified; see the validation record.
Release scope
This is a source release, not a notarized standalone installer. Windows remains experimental and currently needs external QEMU, firmware, swtpm and Python 3.14. Windows Direct3D/Metal acceleration is not implemented. No guest operating systems, installer images, VM disks, credentials or local runtime bundles are included.
Lumen v27.1.0
Lumen v27.1.0 is a source release of LumensVM, a native SwiftUI virtual machine manager for Apple Silicon.
Highlights
Security
- Release builds inject only the signature-sealed QEMU helper library; working-directory, VM-bundle and runtime-compile fallbacks are debug-only.
- Windows guest tools verify a random per-launch marker on the setup disc, so a spoofed
LUMENSETUPISO is not executed. - Windows startup tooling runs only from an Administrators/SYSTEM-protected folder; shared-folder credentials are stored per user with
cmdkey. - VirtIO driver preparation is checked against a committed SHA-256 manifest.
- The app is signed with the hardened runtime, and the unused hypervisor entitlement is removed.
Performance
- Explicit QEMU CPU topology, reuse of an unchanged Windows setup ISO (no
hdiutilon every boot), and installer detection off the main thread. - Quieter library refresh (polls only while a machine is active, redraws only on change), throttled macOS install progress, and a cached display color space.
New Apple Virtualization features
- Opt-in Rosetta for Linux guests, with guest-tools binfmt registration; guest tools also enable
fstrim.timer. - Opt-in nested virtualization on supported hosts (macOS 15+, M3 or later).
- Download the latest macOS restore image from the new-machine flow.
Downloads and build
Download LumensVM-v27.1.0-source.zip and verify it against SHA256SUMS, or use GitHub's source archives. Build on an Apple Silicon Mac with macOS 14+ and current Xcode/Command Line Tools:
brew install qemu swtpm python@3.14 sevenzip
bash scripts/build.sh
open build/Lumen.appSee the README and changelog. OS installers are not included.
Validation
42 core tests, the display-redraw regression, a release build and strict/deep signature verification passed locally. The changes in this release were verified by build and unit tests only and have not yet been exercised against live Windows, Linux or macOS guests. Windows remains experimental. See validation notes.
Release scope
Source-only and ad-hoc signed; not Developer ID signed or notarized. No Windows Direct3D/Metal acceleration, snapshots/clones or Parallels import.
Lumen v27.0.1
Lumen v27.0.1 is a source release of LumensVM, a native SwiftUI virtual machine manager for Apple Silicon.
Highlights
- Separate macOS/Linux VM app processes and OS Dock tiles, with library pause/resume/shutdown and exclusive runtime disk protection.
- Linux X11 clipboard integration, native Command-C/V and Edit-menu paste, terminal shortcut modes, Void/runit guest tools and shared-folder startup.
- ARM64 Windows VirtIO driver preparation/repair, 2D Retina resizing controls and private multi-folder SMB2 sharing.
- Installer selection, VM creation, removable-media menus, full-screen exit and fractional display-redraw fixes.
- A refreshed README, user guide, compatibility matrix, changelog, contributor guide, security guidance and third-party notices.
Downloads and build
Download LumensVM-v27.0.1-source.zip and verify it against SHA256SUMS, or use GitHub's source archives. Build on an Apple Silicon Mac with macOS 14+ and current Xcode/Command Line Tools:
brew install qemu swtpm python@3.14 sevenzip
bash scripts/build.sh
open build/Lumen.appSee the README for setup and requirements. OS installers are not included.
Validation
38 core tests, the display-redraw regression, private SMB2 transport checks, a release build and strict/deep ad-hoc signature verification passed locally. Live Abyss checks verified clipboard/sharing and separate guest lifecycle/Dock behavior. See validation notes for the limits of each result.
Release scope
This is a source release, not a notarized standalone installer. Local builds use ad-hoc signing. Windows remains experimental and needs external QEMU/firmware, swtpm for TPM, and Python 3.14 for private folder sharing. Windows graphics are 2D; Direct3D/Metal acceleration is not implemented. Full fresh-install acceptance, macOS guest-process installation and other pending features are documented in compatibility.
