This method has lost the history. Somehow the history was there before "git mv" and is not there after.

OK, losing the history seems to be normal with git mv. It is there with "--follow".. Is this OK? The method I'm using doesn't obviously have a way to move the directory with keeping the directory. it moves the content out of the directory. Note that I could not get the most modern methods of splitting repos to work, I'd have to download tools. If you want, we could stop and investigate.

Rob, nothing in Production needs to be kept, can easily start over

The pattern seems to be "git log" without a file name does not need --follow, with a file it does.

Do you want me to stop and investigate how to move a whole intact directory rather than insert an unnecessary mv? It might take a few days, talking to experts.
