It has been suggested (by I forgot who, chime in if it was you) that we may want to add a species_name (or similar) metadata property to identify a chemical species.
The idea is that we might have Oxygen floating around but in different forms such as oxygen_dry_mixing_ratio or oxygen_number_concentration. This could come in handy if we ever want to have the framework auto convert (or at least auto alert) to situations such as this.
An alternative idea is, in the case we end up with a standard-enough standard_name naming convention, we could have a species_name method to extract the same information from the standard_name (including, e.g., for a database report).
