Feature: Support for NS8 volume management in ns8-piler

Currently, ns8-piler lacks built-in support for NS8 volume management. This feature is requested to enable volume management capabilities directly from NS8, improving storage flexibility and management for piler deployments.

Proposed solution

Integrate NS8 volume management support in ns8-piler, allowing administrators to add, remove, and manage storage volumes via the platform.

Alternative solutions

Continue managing storage volumes manually on the host system. However, this is less intuitive and may increase operational complexity.

Objective: Verify that ns8-piler correctly supports NS8 volume management for additional storage.

Prerequisites:

• Node with additional storage mounted and configured in /etc/fstab

Test Case 1: Manual Installation with Additional Storage

Setup:

1. Configure additional storage in /etc/fstab on the target node
2. Ensure the additional storage is mounted and available

Test Steps:

1. Install ns8-piler manually, link it to the mail server
2. Verify the module starts correctly with the volume on additional storage
3. verify that piler is archiving the email fom the mail server

Pass Criteria:

• Module functions correctly with volume on additional storage

Test Case 2: Clone Module with Volume Management

Setup:

1. ns8-piler module already installed with piler_store on additional storage
2. set the testing as default
3. redis-cli HSET cluster/repository/default testing 1
4. redis-cli del cluster/repository_cache/default
   Test Steps:
5. install from the softwarecenter the ns8-piler module to a node (with additional storage available)
6. During install operation, check volume placement options
7. Select storage location for the cloned module
8. Verify the module starts with correct volume placement
9. verify that piler is archiving the email fom the mail server

Pass Criteria:

• Volume placement menu appears during clone
• installed module uses selected storage location
• Original module remains unaffected

Test Case 3: Upgrade of a stable version to testing

note: we cannot use additional storage during upgrade but we want to demonstrate that previous version will still work

Setup:

1. ns8-piler module on default storage
2. Additional storage available with sufficient space (it can be enabled, it will not be used)

Test Steps:

1. Check available space on additional storage
2. Initiate upgrade to version with volume management
3. Monitor upgrade progress and logs
4. Verify module starts after upgrade
5. Test module functionality

Pass Criteria:

• Upgrade with migration completes successfully
• No data corruption or loss
• Module starts and functions correctly
