Monitoring Traffic Speed

Is there any way to monitor the traffic speed of a proxy server in nginx?

Nginx Proxy Manager does not currently provide a built-in bandwidth/speed graph, but its access logs contain enough information to calculate transfer rates externally.

Each proxy host writes /data/logs/proxy-host-<id>_access.log. The default proxy log format includes response-body bytes as [Length $body_bytes_sent]. A collector such as Vector, Fluent Bit, Promtail/Loki, or Telegraf can parse that field and sum it over an interval to produce bytes per second per proxy host.

Two limitations are worth noting:

• $body_bytes_sent covers response bodies, not uploaded request bytes. Add $request_length to a custom log_format if upload volume is also required.
• Access entries are normally written when a request completes, so this gives interval throughput, not the instantaneous speed of an in-progress long download.

stub_status is useful for active connections and request counts, but it does not expose transferred-byte counters.

NPM's per-host access-log configuration is here, and the relevant NGINX variables are documented in the HTTP log module. If you add a custom format, NPM loads custom HTTP configuration from /data/nginx/custom/http_top.conf; include fields such as $request_length, $bytes_sent, $request_time, and $msec, then send the resulting log to your monitoring system.
