Pre-alpha build focused on reliability, API consolidation, and setup hardening. This is the last preview before v1 polish.

🚀 Highlights

  • M11 complete (QA/CI/Docs gate to v1)

    • E2E smoke: ISO boots; first-boot OTP on console; web UI & SSH come up; Btrfs flows pass.
    • Playwright UI checks for setup/login, dashboard, storage, apps.
    • Linting & type checks tightened; reproducible packaging.

  • Canonical API → /api/v1

    • All setup/auth/storage/health endpoints live under /api/v1/*.
    • OpenAPI served at /api/v1/openapi.json.
    • Legacy unversioned /api/* routes removed.

  • One web client

    • Frontend consolidated on nos-client (cookies, refresh, CSRF, proxy-aware).
    • Legacy clients (api.ts, api-client.ts) removed.

  • Setup wizard hardening

    • OTP → first-admin → system (hostname/timezone/NTP) paths are reliable and non-blocking.
    • Clear error toasts + retry; no more spinner dead-ends.
    • Setup state flips to “complete” only after the final step.

  • Health / Monitoring

    • Live data across Monitoring (CPU/RAM/Net/IO) with 1s graceful updates (no widget reflow).
    • Disk Health summaries wired; previous crash fixed.
    • Dashboard “System Health” tiles (CPU, Memory, Load, Uptime) consume the same live feed.

  • Storage

    • Pool/device views tidied; summary cards match pool totals.
    • Better empty/error states when no pools are present.

  • Installer & first boot

    • Branded boot menu (Live / Install / Failsafe) and clearer first-boot console banner (URL + OTP).
    • Hyper-V guidance: use Live or safe graphics; disable Secure Boot for Gen2.

  • Updates system

    • Updater init failures (e.g., APT sources not writable) are warnings and never block setup/boot.
    • Pre-update snapshot/rollback path smoke-tested.

❗ Breaking changes

  • API paths: everything is now under /api/v1. Update any custom scripts or reverse-proxy rewrites.
  • Removed: legacy web clients (web/src/lib/api.ts, web/src/lib/api-client.ts). All calls go through nos-client.

🔼 Upgrade notes (from 0.9.4-pre / earlier)

  1. Update packages/ISO as usual; no Btrfs pool migration required.
  2. If you run your own reverse proxy, ensure it forwards /api/v1/* unchanged.
  3. Clear the browser cache after upgrade (new CSP/headers & bundles).

⚠️ Known issues (pre-alpha)

  • Secure Boot is not yet supported on the preview ISO.
  • ZFS remains optional via DKMS and may vary by platform licensing.
  • Minor UI polish (empty states, a11y, copy) continues into v1.
  • Metrics on heavily constrained VMs can jitter at 1s cadence (cosmetic).

🧪 How to try it

  • ISO: see release assets. Boot NithronOS Live → Install, or run live and access the UI.
  • First boot: console prints the LAN URL and a one-time OTP. Open the URL from a LAN browser and complete setup.
  • Default network: LAN-only HTTP (preview). Enable remote access/TLS from the UI when ready.
  • Hyper-V: disable Secure Boot for Gen2 VMs. Use safe graphics if needed.

  • Open an issue and include logs from journalctl -u nosd -b plus browser console/network output.
  • Share the support bundle from the UI when possible.
