Contributing a development simulation

The development of NorESM3 is documented through a series of development simulations, listed as issues in the noresm3_dev_simulations repository.

Option 1: Create a "placeholder" issue to discuss a simulation experiment you plan to carry out.

• Create a new issue, preferably using either the "N1850" or "NF1850" template
• In title section, use keyword "placeholder, and a descriptive title
• Describe the experiment you want to carry out, and tag people who should contribute with information about input files and parameter settings
• Once the experiment is defined, start the experiment run
• Replace the issue title with the casename for your experiment

Option 2: Create an issue for an already running or completed experiment

• Create a new issue, using either the "N1850" or "NF1850" template if appropriate
• Use the casename as title
• Describe the case

After running diagnostics, update the case description with links to the diagnostics output.

Create one issue per simulation experiment, so that other users can find the output of the experiment by looking at the issue title.

Set appropriate labels for the issue, e.g. compset, grid, type of run, etc.

If the experiment is a branch or hybrid continuation of another case in the issues list, a link to the "parent" case can be included in the "Relationships" section.

The issue should remain "open" as long as the data is available on Nird.

The issue can be "closed" if the experiment is no longer needed, and data is removed from Nird (diagnostics output does not need to be removed)
