GetUserAvailability mergedFreeBusyIntervalInMinutes not being considered

Hi,
I have a meeting from 8-8.30 , 8.45-9.15, 10-11 in a user's calendar.
In Get User Availability call for this user with FreeBusy option, when I give mergedFreeBusyIntervalInMinutes as 30 or 60, the results are same. What should be the behaviour of this parameter when it is set to 30 minutes or 60 minutes.
I am setting the reuqested View as FreeBusyMerged .
