Open Sovereignty Lab

Open-source tools, templates, and frameworks for communities that refuse to trade sovereignty for technology.

What We Build

Modern technology infrastructure — cloud platforms, AI systems, data pipelines — is increasingly built on contracts and architectures that require communities to cede control over their own information. Open Sovereignty Lab exists to change that.

We develop open-source resources that give communities technical sovereignty, not just contractual promises. Cryptographic key control. Portable data architectures. Legal templates that hold up. Code that anyone can audit, fork, and own.

Current Projects

A comprehensive framework helping Tribal Nations adopt major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP, Salesforce) without ceding sovereign control over their data. Includes Terraform templates, legal addendums, policy documents, and cost modeling tools.

Status: Under active development — full release coming 2026

Principles

Sovereignty is technical, not just legal. A contract that says you own your data means little if the provider holds the encryption keys. We build systems where control is enforced in code, not just on paper.

Open source for resilience. No community should depend on a single vendor or organization — including us — to maintain their sovereignty infrastructure. MIT-licensed code that anyone can fork, own, and carry forward.

Built with communities, not for them. Resources developed here are shaped by the communities they serve. We don't write policy templates in a vacuum.

Practical over perfect. A working Terraform script that a tribal IT director can deploy today is worth more than a theoretical framework that never ships.

Get Involved

This work is in its early stages. If you represent a Tribal Nation, Indigenous organization, or community with data sovereignty needs — or if you're a technologist, attorney, or policy expert who wants to contribute — we want to hear from you.
