Upon clicking "Merge," the button was disabled, the screen froze for about a minute, and then an "internal server error" occurred. The merge was successful, but the page failed to navigate correctly, likely due to the immediate deletion of the sandbox.
I can't see any server side logs from this, I think it's a client side issue.
