It has been suggested to use X32 for controlling DMX. The same can be done for MIDI as there are some protocolls to transfer MIDI over network (besides using the actual MIDI port, obviously)
There seems to be 2 mostly used protocols:
1) rtp-MIDI, see e.g.
https://github.com/davidmoreno/rtpmidid
or: https://github.com/davidmoreno/rtpmidid
This protocol is being used by Apple and even some devices like the iConnectivity MioXM / MioXL series.
- The ipMIDI protocoll,
see e.g. https://nerds.de/en/ipmidi.html
https://github.com/lathoub/Arduino-ipMIDI
3) There is also a third protocol (UMC), see: https://xmmc.de/touchdaw/man_midi_network.htm
