Newbie question on using Openscap for offline scaning

Description of Problem:

Hi,

I am a Openscap newbie and seeing how it can be used to scan different VM images for CVEs. I am starting with scanning a sample CentOS VM image or sample Debian images (downloaded from here: https://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/openstack/testing/) and seeing if that is supported.

I tried using oscap-vm (from https://www.open-scap.org/tools/openscap-daemon/#download), but while using it get the errors of the form:

OpenSCAP Error: Probe at sd=32 (system_info) reported an error: Missing value [../../../src/OVAL/oval_probe_ext.c:393]
Unable to receive a message from probe [../../../src/OVAL/oval_probe_ext.c:579]
Failed to create a new agent session. [../../../src/OVAL/oval_session.c:314]

Not sure if I am on the right path. A simple HOWTO will go a long way.

Please update your report with the complete command-line - we need to know what content have you used, in which mode you have used oscap-vm etc. in order to be able to assist.
